Thanks for the chapter! Just something I noticed... WHY does Liv share extremely critical information about herself and her grandfather with the enemy...??? WTF. Not even mentioning ofc this fight is stupid in itself why would she risk her live for a completely unknown "thing that the goddess may want" lol.

Tarrim

She's done that before but that would probably take too long in the current circumstances

lenkite

> If she had a word like Master Grenfell’s, one that conjured fire, could she melt Karis away entirely No, she doesn't need the word of Fire to fight Automatons. She can already produce Heat from Cel alone. She just needs to focus the heat into a tiny area. Now that she has Aluth, it should be possible for her to produce a focused [Heat Beam] or a sustained [Heat Aura] surrounding the automaton. The latter would really screw up its systems.

Italo Lima Lopes

Pure Ice condensed from the air could be a good insulator

Tarrim

begin drawing on what was stored in her pearl, her guild-ring, and the gold bracelet she’d won from the princess. >Missing her wand's pommel stone in this list. I'd recommend dropping the list IMO bit long and unwieldy at this point or maybe just specifically listing the pearl.

Tarrim

Based on what I am seeing lightning striking the ocean causes it to travel on top of the water and she is definitely too close for that. I believe he is a better conductor then the water however so I was wondering if that would send the charge into what he is standing on rather then through the water and if that would potentially give her some protection. Edit* It's also possible she has figured out a spell to protect herself so I guess we wait to see tomorrow's chapter.

sings_with_toads

I'm just terribly aware that, standing in seawater just ~20-30 ft away from the point of impact (and likely directly connected to it), she's not nearly insulated from the lightning's arcs.

Tarrim

Not too long I agree. Assuming the school arc continues it's probably a few chapters after the aftermath. I think she is pretty much ready to finish the four classes she started in advanced on. Just a matter of getting good enough at probably enchanting and guild law to hit journeyman and she has probably spent the last few weeks almost exclusively on finishing those.

Italo Lima Lopes

I think she will become a journeyman in a few chapters. It wasn't long before she became an Apprentice in "Book 1: Apprentice", so I don't think it will be delayed too much.

Tarrim

Depends on the risk. If he thinks the risk is minimal he probably would but if he think she'll be caught anyway better to just send her north already. I could see Jurian being against the current system and willing to overlook an infraction if he can get away with it. If she succeeds in destroying it hiding that is was attacked by lightning may be impossible so that is another potential problem.

Italo Lima Lopes

Even though Jurian likes her, I don't know if he would protect her from this, even more because he is now an archmage and the second in command of the guild.

Grayson

Mana shield will obscure anyone noticing from college; townsfolk will just say wizardry...only Jurian should know.

Tarrim

Depends on a few things. They are pretty far out and she could try to blame it on calling lightning with Cel. Depends on if something is happening to the capital at the same time. If they can bring enough force to bear on the capital they could decapite Lucanian leadership in one fell swoop. So they may consider a worthwhile target. The attack on coral bay will probably force a response from Lucania regardless so eliminating the leadership now makes sense if they think they can. If neither of those are true I could see some sort of settlement between Liv's backers and the new king. I could definitely see her being forced north if none of those work. Either via a royal edict banishing her or just fleeing the law.

melchi

I've actually been wondering how the power struggle between the merchant guild and the aristocracy is playing out.

Tarrim

I do wonder how this fight will change things for Liv. Clearly she is going to be punished assuming the school arc isn't suddenly over. I assume at least to Jurian her secret of having Luc will be out of the bag. If it becomes more widely known and Benedict is still alive she will likely have to flee north or make a deal she doesn't want to. I also wonder if this will cause the way she is taught to be changed. She has been sitting around in classes she could probably test out of with presumably limited benefit until her other classes catch up.

Italo Lima Lopes

Will we see a bigger and more serious version of the problems with the merchant guild in the beginning of the series? The royal word isn't what I would call easy to hide.

melchi

This chapter was kinda hard to follow. Not exactly sure why but some of the paragraphing and long sentences? EX: "Liv’s eyes flicked back up to Jurian. As the bats swarmed in, a dozen spikes of blue mana erupted out from his staff, sawing through the flocking forms, and dropping more winged creatures out of the sky, to fall into either the surf, or onto the wet sand below." Merging actions of 1.) Liv, 2.) Jurian 3.) bats All in one paragraph, 2 sentences. It is really dense. Not really something that most people notice, but trying to separate action scenes into paragraphs that each actor does their thing is sorta an old editor thingy.

Thank you!

The possibilities 🤩

Alexander Johnson

Here's hoping it fries something important😈

Alexander Johnson

Aahhhh!!! I can't wait to see Liv's Luc finally in action!😍

Jake

Hell yeah, Karis coming in hot with the rotary cannon. Liv will have to get with Sidonie and use her word that can accelerate things to make a little something special of their own. I want enchanted howitzers. Those eruptions would be a little easier to take care of with pre-sighted indirect fire. I can imagine Liv sitting back with glass of wine while obliterating some grid square that covers a rift from 15 miles away. Awesome chapter by the way!

Big fight, as my son's Dogman books would say! I believe this puts us 18 chapters ahead on Patreon, and tomorrow should get us to 19!
