Tarrim

I don't think ghosting applies here she broke up with him to his face and he seems to have not have pushed for more communication. That being said there could certainly be a bit more closure for their relationship. It's possible there are more consequences for what happened coming. I don't think it is required but something like Cade's father trying to force a marriage is possible. I think her current thoughts are less about consequences for the relationship and more setting up for what happens between her and someone else probably Rose. Alongside revealing her own mental state.

Tarrim

Basically they are hoping with all the excitement the lightning is forgotten. Liv should avoid all use of lightning when she is close to the school or any other students for the rest of her time there except as a last resort. No more sneaking of during rain storms for practice sessions.

Nopret

In a way it shows how hectic the situation is when the teachers mess up their scheduling

william wallace

I would assume that as time passes the ‘lightning’ will be blamed on the automaton or on the magical computer thing in the rift. At least until it inevitably comes out that she knows and uses Luc.

Sleeping Shadow

It feels like foreshadowing every time it's mentioned, this has to bite her somehow.

Eli Loeb

We need a cade confrontation and consequences she can't get away with basically ghosting the dude

Tarrim

Edit* Rereading it Jurian just doesn't want the questions asked he doesn't really discuss what would be the end result if they were. Her disappearing would cause those questions to be asked so best to act like nothing is up while still creating distance for a little while.

Grayson

Jurian has stated she's in danger...

Tarrim

I do wonder how much danger she is actually in. Her family is very dangerous and don't view what she did as a crime so certainly wouldn't take kindly to her being executed or anything like that. Caspian would know this and would want to avoid it. Could easily see Benedict trying to get her to rat on Julianne in return for a pardon and if that fails just exiling her.

Tarrim

It might happen sometimes but I expect the default punishment is death. The power structure of the kingdom is built around controlling words people having words outside that are threats to that structure.

Martin Kalum

Just realitet we havent see have people normaly learn a Word, without it being inprinted. Maybe you could learn Words you shouldnt via that

Martin Kalum

Execution seem like a overkill. It way more beneficial to finansloven ruined them. And midt peolpe with Words are tte rulers, and hard to replace. But Word are problely way more control than people think, like only a family have them, that like 5 maxat the time. This Lead to them problely almost never spread, and if do unlikely to spread further cuz you dont want to show everyone you have a Word, you shouldnt have. As for other places havent those Word. Problely bit not all, some Word seems vary terriory based, with some exception.

Tarrim

Maybe the plan changed but Jurian said Norris would send them along and then did it himself.

Tarrim

I have no doubt there are people with words they shouldn't have. However I don't think many have them it's probably too harshly punished in most cases. I expect execution in most cases of illegal words. If something is going to happen to start breaking this down my guess would be this war gets ugly and words start getting given out to more people to enhance them. Edit* Also I don't think there are many out of country places to get illegal words. Veruna seems to be mostly unsettled. We will see len ka dakrum but I don't think words are freely given. You might be able to convince an eld but unless your an eld you can't easily meet many. I do wonder if there are humans in alfenthia with words that would be illegal if they ever returned to Lucania or that fleed there after getting one. Also wouldn't shock me if some flee to veruna and settle there depending on the exact situation there.

william wallace

It will be interesting to see if we ever run into any groups of outlaw magic users in the kingdom. Logically the words of power have not been as tightly held as the nobility likes to pretend. Im sure at least a few times some noble owed money or was blackmailed into sharing their word. And I’m certain some have secretly shared words with their children that were acquired by marriage or illegally. To say nothing of people that have traveled to other countries and acquired a word there. Im wouldn’t expect it to be common but i would be its one of those things that the nobility all know about but pretend doesn’t exist, like bastard children or plots against the crown. Will be fun to see if the laws/rules/traditions regarding magic breakdown during the upcoming conflict.

Tarrim

Not sure where they could move to. Most of their members are Lucanian. The eld are too xenophobic to let them settle there. Lend ka dakrum I don't think is much if any better regarding magic and there seems to be major cultural differences regardless.

Grayson

That is because control of magic is what determines the power structure in Lucania...magic hoarded jealously. Guild should move...

Tarrim

Poor Thora getting dragged into danger because Liv wasn't strong enough to beat that machine without resorting to lightning. And because the nobles really screwed over everyone in the kingdom with their rules regarding magic.

dimi1010

In addition to the fact that she shouldn't have been there. I assume Jurian (and Liv probably) would prefer her involvement be kept off the books so they don't leave a paper trail to the convenient lightning that might have been spotted there.

Tarrim

She is now fully pointed in the direction of rift exploration which will almost certainly include the tomb of celris as a destination. That was where she was encouraged to go last time so there's a chance whatever or whoever it is won't feel the need to communicate. I do hope we get more.

Tarrim

I doubt it for the first set at least nothing official. She broke rules to be the one to do it. For the second set the guild is sending reinforcements to backup the locals so they don't need a huge force necessarily.

FauxPraetor

I'm curious as to whether she'll see anything interesting on that in-between place this time.

william wallace

Will liv get credit for finding the entrance to the rift, the remains of the body of the automaton (assuming its worth studying), or the artifacts/devices/knowledge recovered from the control room? Would this count as part/all pf her contribution towards her mastery? Will the guild be sending a follow on mission/reinforcements? It seems short sighted to only send 7 newly minted journeyman mages, with little if any magical gear.

Grayson

Love the story!! One possible plot hole--why, if Liz is in danger in Lucania, would Liz ever return??

sedael

congrats!

When we publish, this will end up making the end of volume 3.
