I don't think using lightning was a stupid decision - it was a desperate decision. Making a long term dangerous choice to avoid a an immediately deadly one. And stepping in to help instead of allowing things to degenerate further is another calculated and reasonable risk given what she knows is going down globally. She's just taking risks and doing things that no teenager-equivalent should be doing... But then, we didn't get mad about Harry Potter either (or at least most folks didn't)

John Koor

Oof, she's getting reckless! Wren should've prevented that.

Dave N

yup. see planning in today's chapter.

Dave N

correct. she just went down to have a quick look

Dave N

She hadn't used it in years, at that point. It's like packing away your old skis or whatever and forgetting about them, in my mind.

Shad0wlife

I think because her wand is generally so much better in verything except when learnong to focus a spell, and it was impractical? But I'm not sure.

Tarrim

Space and she didn't do her packing for the most part. I think she should see about getting it back assuming she can get back to school. It would potentially be a good gift or loaner to someone just starting casting, if nothing else.

Andreas Kristensen

Why did she not bring her staff to the academy? I cant really think of a good reason why she left it at the castle

lenkite

Liv should experiment with making a ramp of [Frictionless Adamant Ice]. Let the skellies keep slipping. That way soldiers can keep smashing them.

Well im sure with her string of stupid decisions she has been making, i'm sure its coming. Whether its "hey mom, i left the country, wanted and now fighting skeletons" or "Sorry Julianne, I used lightning and now you gunna have more crap to deal with". Nothing at this point surprises me at this point.

Tarrim

Maybe I don't think we know enough to say one way or the other what the most efficient method Liv has. Another idea I have is they will undoubtedly be using aluth to drain mana from people spending too long in the rift. I'm pretty sure if they have enough mana stone they can basically use the mana from that to fuel themselves. Assuming of course it is power efficient.

melchi

The bone wand problem was a nice detail

Italo Lima Lopes

Wouldn't constructs like Liv's Ice Soldiers be efficient?

Matthew

Mages don't have the mana use spells nonstop for 8 hours, so they should only use it during an assault, an emergency, or at the end of there shift. I feel this should be common sense among mages

Tarrim

Basically they need really mana efficient ways to kill them. I don't think just throwing skeletons at them would do it. IDK what they could do, best I can think of is find some way to use the rift's own mana against it. Either that or figure out a way to break whatever magic is animating them.

John Koor

Did Liv enter the shoal without armor on? I didn't see a reference to her wearing it in 121-123.

lenkite

Arjun knows Cost - really think it should be renamed to "Asthi", if you are giving an ancient Indian analogue spin here. He should raise the bones to fight the bones!

Dave N

Yup. She doesn't have a great way to communicate right now.

Tarrim

It's a question of safely getting her a message in time. She can't exactly use the waystones to make a quick trip right now and sending a message over land could be intercepted and read. It's the same reason she never sent a message to Julianne asking for the incantation to protect herself from electricity. Edit* Also if he thinks he can get away with it, I'm sure Jurian will send Liv a message if she shouldn't return.

Grayson

Julianne should be warned Liz used lightning; message relay should be set up with Jurian so Liz knows consequences...
