Nevermind the waystone bit then. I thought she used the paper to connect the waystone to one it can't normally reach but on a reread she didn't.

Tarrim

Nothing she did was an unknown technique. All she did was activate a waystone the normal way which then transforred what was on it to another waystone. The only slightly odd thing she did was have no one on it but that is well within the rules that have been established.

And inscribing Liv's bones is pretty metal lol

ooof, 3 weeks is a decent chunk of time - I wonder how everything is going back at the academy, in the kingdom with a new king (How will this affect Liv's adopted family?) and the Eld in Veruna?

FuriousDee

Yeah they could hold her and if they try I expect the archmage that sent her here to show up to complain about them taking advantage of guild journey men who were sent to help. That sounds like the sort of thing that gets a city if not a country banned from asking the mages guild for help in the future. Also I did mention that they should focus on something else to prevent hesitation.

Tarrim

Vivek used it to detect Liv was hesitating which tells me it isn't as simple as telling lies vs truth. I think it could potentially detect half truths and attempts to brush over what they want to know. Even if it can't would they know that it was so limited and if they tried and failed to conceal the fate of the spear it would upset them, including people who might be persuaded to let them go. Even if they could convince them it would be a bad idea to hurt her they could still hold her until the spear was returned.

FuriousDee

Then don't lie. Focus on the absolute necessity of using the only god killing weapon they know of against the evil goddess so they don't detect hesitation. Liv can say that the spear was turned into bone and that she used the goddess's spell to destroy as much bone as possible to prevent further undead attacks and that she passed out as they were leaving and doesn't know where spear is now. All of which is true because she doesn't know where the spear is now just that she teleported it somewhere three weeks ago. The other two can both say they weren't there when she started destroying the bone as she had sent them away they came back when she started screaming then focused on dragging her out as quickly as possible they can also say that they couldn't see the spear when they were pulling out her unconscious body (because she had just teleported it) and they don't know what has happened to it because they actually don't. They can also use this truth sense to impress upon them the diplomatic incident that would occur if they hurt her.

Tarrim

They have people with the word of truth hard to hide such things from them.

Tarrim

She couldn't go home. The options on the stone were limited and she only recognized two of them. One of which was in the middle of rift she was in no shape to fight out of or the other one going here. She did it because she wanted to understand and break what was going on here. She wanted to ensure there was no chance costia was coming back. Was it reckless yes, but she has always been a bit reckless. Also I don't think she wanted Isabel's death to mean nothing by doing this Isabel helped break a centuries long curse that has killed quite probably thousands.

Disgruntoad

Yeah, that was my first thought as well

Grayson

This was borderline suicidal behavior which doesn't make sense to me. Why would Liv, after having almost died absorbing mana at Bald Peak, breath in a Goddess' mana in a rift in a foreign country with Jagan trying to kill her?? And why didn't she use the waypoint to go home once she stole the spear?

FuriousDee

She should just say that as the spear was turned into bone by the goddess's magic, breaking her spell broke the spear the same way it destroyed both of the corpses, which were turned into bone. Unless Wren or Arjun told them about sending it somewhere else, they have no way of knowing otherwise. They took the spear because they wanted to use it against Ratica. It makes no sense to admit to stealing it if they don't have any evidence she did, and even less sense to offer the spear back. She can probably also mention the diplomatic consequences if she is killed. Both for killing a member of the mages guild who came to help them and for effectively killing a princess.
