That entire setup was designed to make her crack. They isolated her in a clearly hostile room. They left her standing up. They brought in the spy master. They casually dropped an execution threat. They brought out an orb they claimed could tell when someone is lying. They know how to do interrogations using intimidation. The fact that it got to her and made her panic is perfectly understandable. Particularly when she wasn't prepared for it.

I feel like if she wasn’t as flustered she could have easily told the truth and still hide the fact she has luc imprinted. But in world it is reasonable that she wouldn’t have the presence of mind to do so. It is the first time she ever hears of an enchantment that can tell if someone is lying and as such she never had to think about how to skirt the truth. “There was a lightning strike from clear sky, was that you?” Yes, I can use cel to cause lightning to strike”

Genevieve was going for intimidation and it was working. Liv was panicking and not thinking clearly. They may have gotten what they wanted if they hadn't been interrupted. As for not bringing her friends back I don't think it was really an option. Sure they could have followed but they would have been stopped at the door. Maybe one would have known something that would have helped Liv but that isn't a guarantee.

I am not happy at all about Liv going back without her friends. That seems both wildly unrealistic, and wholely out of character. Also, it just feels yucky. The whole sequence feels nasty and nasty, and tactless. I'd expect someone who was the Royal Court Mage to be better at wheedling information out of people. Or at least the spy master.

This is a plot hole--anyone with sense would never have returned to Lucania if their life could be threatened--and the king has to know that killing Liv would ignite a blood feud with House Sayva. If Liz's granddad is half or 4/8ths Vaedic, grandmother is 25% (2/8ths) Vaedic, then Liv's father is 3/8ths Vaedic--almost as powerful as her grandfather, and a dangerous enemy...and I suspect the Sayva also have several archmage's as well...
