It seems authority can be broken by simple speed. I hope this is remembered for the future and not forgotten. Word of speed is considerably over powered and Liv should get her hands on it ASAP. Its a pity Julianne didn't get to fully cast her word of power. If she had thrown it at the army, it would have been a wipeout.

I did a bit of work showing more of what some of the Eld are doing, at the beginning! As always, I'm very interested in constructive criticism that helps to improve the story - even if it sometimes takes me a day or two to work it in!

I do believe Liv's grandmother is supposed to be stronger than her great uncle. Doesn't mean he is weak but her grandmother could destroy Genevieve.

Honestly, I don’t understand how this is going… We have been told that court mages aren’t as trained in battle. Then we have a couple hundred Eld who all can use magic, and have had a lot more time to master it. And every time the wall is hit, less than 20 guild mages kill dozens of the Eld?? I don’t get it. Also, Liv’s grandmother used her authority and dusted dozens of Iravata Eld, and all her brother can do is make the Arundell guy move slowly?? It seems very disproportionate 🤷🏽‍♂️

Gabi

honestly a bit confused at the decision-making here. Liv had one job only--wait for Arundell. Why would Julianne give her the go ahead to address the dowager rather than going herself? That seems like the better match-up for them both, and could still end up similarly without the decisions that run counter to their previously stated strategy

Disappointing how one sided this appears to be.

Genevieve is so fast due to having vefta. Accelerate that is the same word Ansen Fane had. The implication regarding Milicent's transformation ability is she became like the great bats via Ractia.

I’m fine with all the death and destruction I really like the vibes but I do have to admit that it feels a bit underdeveloped, for one Genevieve was said to be strong bc she is an archmage but why is she so strong? It was said that she spent her days after the bad culling accident as a royal court mage which I imagine in a time of peace wouldn’t give her much time to practice fighting. I understand her being much more magically powerful but she seems so fast, like able to to things in the blink of an eye fast and that would take a lot of training, for one she is a regular human and secondly she is older her reaction time and such should be slower than Liv’s especially with her getting a physical boost from absorbing the magic. Also it begs the question of if they had all of this power to be able to kill them this swiftly, why did they not do so? Genevieve and Millicent showed up and within twenty minutes three very important and trained mages died without so much as a struggle really. And I understand this is going to be important to Liv’s arc and she’s going to acquire the wand and probably make it so at least some people survive but I think it might have been better if they had been more even, with the Northerners losing when the archmage and Millicent showed up and then have Ractia interrupt everything or somehow be the one that caused everything to go so badly and everyone dying. Also Millicent power seemingly came out of nowhere and begs the question of what is the difference between the people who drink blood and turn into animals and the people with a word of power connected to animals. If the Eld guy who had the word for wyverns seemingly had more time to practice with the word, had more words of power couldn’t fully turn into a wyvern or be seen doing more of this physical shapeshifting why didn’t he? It just seems a stretch in logic when that would have made Liv fighting him a lot harder.

People are surprised by this but are forgetting that the Eld are already fighting a war on two fronts. Liv's dad is fighting with most of the other Eld against Ractia and her people. Not to mention the rifts are pouring out beasts constantly. While numbers aren't everything, if the Crown's people are willing to bleed their own and sacrifice levies by the thousands to tire out Whitehill's side then magic isn't as much of an advantage.--Froyobaggins' wife

There’s a Keri POV coming up, but perhaps I can also add a bit more development in this one. I was primarily trying to make sure I hit all the named characters, and even there it’s hard to fit everyone in one chapter!

Larc

I have to say, strong as the dowager seems to have become, I did not expect this to be a sweep. Maybe it was the warped perspective, but I was almost certain Whitehill held, if not the advantage, then even ground against the Royal forces. The almost disproportionate level of magical power exhibited by the more prominent Royal mages takes me out of the story, some. With the world building thus far, I was under the impression that someone like Liv's uncle would be more than a match for the dowager, let alone some silver-flinging baron or a guy with speedy powers. Then again, I understand the narrative need: if the Eld could just stomp Lucania magically, there wouldn't be much tension, would there? I wonder if an extra Elden PoV chapter or two, for the eventual edited release, wouldn't help re-contextualize some of that perceived magical superiority.

Dreamysyu

Seriously though, the saddest chapter so far. I predicted that Henry and Grenfell would die, but I expected Julianne to survive a bit longer. Now I have no idea where it is going next.

Dreamysyu

Death to traitors! Long live the King!

Chris F

wow thats way more than I expected to happen, getting a real GoT vibe from this chapter I always kind of wondered how Liv would get her hands on Julianne’s wand but I never expected it being freed up in this way Liv is gonna have an unreal arsenal if she gets back all the mana storage she’s lent out

David Kanevsky

Nooo! 😭
