Well basil HAS been living a less ordered life. Maybe his soul doesn't have space for more source yet so his attempts at cultivating life are replacing order.

Hull actually has multiple more Epics that he can't use yet, so honestly he's sitting on a huge pile of stuff. Not to mention Basil is usually somewhat hapless, so he needs all the support he can get. He's good for it.

Hmm, it feels more a matter of personal tastes on where's the character going than an inconsistency, though. Which is perfectly acceptable. So, agree to disagree? (:

Epic card is still way too valuable to just give up, friendship or not. It is horrendous asset management, and even more jarring when Hull missed that important meeting. He has been acting like some paladin recently, and I hate it. Basil allowed him to keep the card, so should keep it and use it. It is Basil that was raised in a noble house, but Hull.

Hull is EXTREMELY rich now. He has all his basic needs taken care of, and we know he values his friendship with Basil. When he burned down that card shop, he was desperate and facing death.

Evin

Note that he also have been giving money to children in the Lows, and haven't forced the Relicsmith to deal with his Chaos cards despite the tremendous gain he could get for his own deck. This show that when Hull can afford to give, he does, and when he isn't in dire need, he cares about not putting others in trouble. His situation have changed since the card shop at the start.

I feel like Hull takes repaying his debts very seriously and that's why he gave Basil the Revenant lord here as to not owe him anything, now they are square.

Myrdin

For me, the issue here is inconsistency with Hull’s character. In the beginning he put a fire to a shop for a chance to get an epic card. A chance to build a deck was what he wanted the most. And now he suddenly gives away epic cards because of gratefulness? For a card that Basil allowed him to keep? The gratefulness is not worth an epic card which is ridiculously valuable in the story.

Furious Scribe

That was what I was going for but it's also good to know it didn't land that way for everyone. Thanks!

Evin

The Night Terror isn't just any epic, though, it's his mother's card. Basil couldn't have known that, but it was a big deal for Hull to keep it. And, Hull might have missed the meeting, but he clearly saw that Basil was hesitating selling the Microburst, which have sentimental value. That played in him stepping in, I bet.

Myrdin

It is still an epic that he could have used for himself. And Basil allowed Hull to keep it. Hull is a street kid who has never had anything and suddenly he just gives up ridiculous assets. Microburst was ok, because they were having a moment there and Basil actually made Hull a huge favour by not taking his Void. But suddenly Hull comes in after missing very important meeting and says, here is my incredibly valuable epic, you can just take it. I like that Hull is changing, but this feels forced and out of character.

Furious Scribe

Ah, I wondered if that would be a problem, so thanks for mentioning. It's for the Epic Night Terror Basil won off Hull but then let him keep. I went ahead and added a bit about it to the chapter for clarity.

Myrdin

So Hull suddenly just gave up an epic for nothing rather than trading it himself? He better have a good reason for, because it feels unbelievably stupid That would be 3rd epic card that he just gave up rather than trade.

Thanks for the chapter!

Scarred Ragdoll

Basil has gotten less orderly, eh? Maintaining sources must be quite difficult if even the Source inherent to your race can decay that quickly.

Jakob

Thanks for the chapter!
