I think yes. besides, he is not selfish and I am sure that he knows a lot about it. but prefers other ways.

I guess it would ruin the story if he started making too much crypto, though if modest returns get Merlin feeling down that just means more opportunities for Veerr to jump his bones.

good question - I'm not sure that he is doing this, even if he can, because the electricity will be spent for exactly the same amount as earned. so I think that he is rather engaged in other ways of earning money - for example, writing programs or running his own server.

Does Merlin invest in or mine cryptocurrency? I just imagine him having a cold secret closet full of noisy ASIC miners of his own design. He doesn't get rich he just makes a modest amount.
