3D Printing Starter Pack - My Recommendations
🕑 Added 2020-12-16 00:01:35 +0000 UTCHello Everyone!
There are a lot of new people here and even more that are brand new to 3D printing! So I curated a list of all my tools. These are all my favorites down to the color. I am a resin queen so keep that in mind haha If you just want to use FDM you don't need IPA or a UV lamp for example. If you have any questions, let me know! I also made some videos that might help you listed at the end.
TOOLS
Most IPA is out of stock, whatever IPA you can find will work. 90%, 99%. The biggest thing I recommend here is that rotary tool! Absolutely essential to easily sanding off little support marks. I've had mine for 2 years and I love it! I included the cure and wash station because I just love the convenience and clean look of it. Totally not needed. I used to wash my minis in a glass tub and cure them in a white box with a UV lamp, works just fine.

PRINTERS and PRINTING MATERIALS
Resin printers are best for small detailed minis. I enjoy the grey resin because it is easy to paint over, and my grey primer matches it perfectly so if I don't get a perfect even coat it's okay.

FDM printers are best for large models or terrain. Hatchbox filament has been excellent for me and the black always looks impressive with a shiny finish. Note that different colors print differently. I've had a lot of issues with red for example.

ART SUPPLIES
Here is the tablet I used to sculpt my minis before I upgraded to the very pricey Wacom Cintiq (which I don't recommend for beginners haha) This Huion is a great high quality tablet that will last you forever. If you want help learning to 3D sculpt, I teach here.

I have really enjoyed this paint set too! I didn't know how to mix colors really so this was perfect to start out with.

I have been using a Phrozen Sonic Mini with Nova3D grey resin for printing. My prints come out beautiful and I really recommend building a UV chamber with a solar powered turning table in there. My prints come out like this, without much supports grinding with the right settings: https://www.thingiverse.com/make:820357 I also recommend two buckets of IPA, one for removing most IPA and one to rinse clean models one last time that isn't so contaminated.

I recently added a resin printer to my collection and stumbled across your youtube videos last night while looking for advice on how to remove supports. Your videos are fantastic. They are concise and to the point without a load of waffle, just what I was looking for

Same!! hahah

The wash and cure station isn't needed, but boy do I like it...

Sounds perfect! Feel free to ask me questions when you do ^_^

Thanks for the information on tools for starting out in 3D printing. I still haven't taken the plunge but will return to review this when I am ready to.
