🕑 Added 2023-04-02 16:23:11 +0000 UTCHere is how easy it is to add an Optocoupler and a Triac to the previous circuit. This will allow for the control of large AC loads. This circuit is basically a solid-state AC relay.

I never did anything with Triacs because I don't really "trust" them. I prefer relays for switching mains stuff. But I might give them a chance, they seem easy to use with one of those zero-cross isolators.

Great video, Paul. It was a very illuminating ;) lesson--thanks! I'm ordering some MOC3042M from DigiKey. However, like many other people have found, DigiKey, Mouser, and many other distributors have no thru-hole IL410s (or IL4108s) in stock. Octopart shows a number of sites, like TTI (as Glen mentioned a few weeks ago), claim to have IL410s in stock, but are those reputable sites? Why do they have so much stock, when DigiKey, Mouser, and a few other distributors have none. Are there cheap clones out there? Is TTI reputable or are there other distributors who are as reputable as DigiKey and Mouser?
