Thanks so much. Im going shopping for some of these and the fun of building with the parts.

Hi Mr Carlson will the power supply for the radio that you been sharing have similar concept for the field coil speakers power supply. Can you do a video to share how to make a power supply for field coil speakers? Thank you for the great video.

Jason Doerr

Hi Paul, great to see I'm not the only person who sees these ham type finds as being gold. I've built several clones of guitar amps and love to use a huge transformer with lots of current cap for next to nothing in cost :) Are you planning to do a B+ supply build with a VU meter etc? Would love to see your take on a regulated supply w/ B+, neg bias and filament. Anyhow cheers and thanks as always for the well crafted videos!

Chip

Awesome, can't wait! Are you still thinking about releasing the high impedance active probe for multi-meters? It's the one you used for designing and testing the low voltage capacitor tester.

Yes you were, it was an automatic thing done by the program. If you try to edit your post or post pictures and links in your very first post, the system will think you are a spammer. Every first post goes into moderation and has to be manually cleared. You are reinstated now, so just post something simple, you will be cleared, then you are good to go, and will not have to be manually cleared anymore.

Paul, for some reason, I have been banned from your forum. I guess I shouldn't ask for assistance identifying an SMT component.

Boo LuQuette

You are one of the guys on the forum he was speaking of in the video ...... I see you a lot on there .....

MRKAPPA

Indeed, this is an excellent video on a great subject/project! Looking forward towards this type of build and would very much appreciate that separate video going into further details if feasible. Thank you once again!

Johan Hagens

Hi! I really would like to understand more about designing and Engineering Stuff like this. Thanks a bunch!!

Dan Barker

The post shows as "awaiting moderation". I guess the moderator is busy.

Thanks for another great video. I've got a few pieces of old gear at Ham rallys that turned out to be unfixable but even then the mains transformer and other parts could be salvaged. I plan to build a B+ supply (or HT as we call it over here) out of all those parts and to use one of the old cases to house it. If you need inspiration Mr C has a video where he goes through a regulated B+ supply and explains in detail how it works

I don't think your post went thru. From my end the link points to error 404 . Perhaps the post is being manually verified by the site admin first, and it might take a while before is approved or something...

Hmm, it sounds interesting. To show-case your PSU (IMHO) the best way to do it is on MCL's website/forums. You can also attach close-up detailed pictures via picture hosting services such as Imgur, https://postimages.org google etc

Great video and project idea and especially the news of the upcoming 18650 HV PSU and I'm highlighting this because in some parts of the world swap meets are either rare and never a regular occurrence or simply non-existent. Also prices the items go for are "nowhere near" the 10-15 dollar mark. Buying an old " tube radio" from various vendors is mostly expensive too and not worth buying just to have it cannibalized for the PSU and other parts. On the other hand, there are the old USSR tubes that are still available in large quantities at a more "down to earth" prices but there are 2 things that make lots of people avoiding them: 1. They are "usually" of a "inconsistent quality" with poor markings, poor glass and pins construction, weird datasheets that are never in English and translating anything's from Russian is a "hit and miss" since most of the time the translation doesn't make much sense. 2. They are in their own league mostly because only some of them have a direct equivalent with tubes produced by the rest of the world. So, I came to a conclusion over the years that North-America and Australia are by far the cheapest places to buy tube stuff at far more reasonable prices than the rest of the world. However, importing them from there is also not an option due to the " extortionate" shipping costs plus some tax charges as well. As much as I would like to learn and get into tube projects, acquiring parts at a reasonable price is always a never-ending battle. Now, going back to the (Tung-Sol project) It would be interesting to see an updated version with a current production IC. Thank you once again for what you do for us "Patreons"

I built a small 300V power supply while I had a K2-W op amp on order. Do-oh! It needed two supplies (+300, -300). So, screw it. I couldn't find any new or used DUAL HV power supplies in my budget, and often I'd need B+ and a screen voltage, etc. So, I put THREE HV power supplies in a box with a filament transformer to boot. Made my life quite easier. I imagine I have a little over $100 (US) in it. The circuit uses 1:1 isolation transformers, voltage doubler, LR8, some fat caps and an FET, with a transistor to drop the gate voltage if the current goes over 10 ma. There is a switch to disable the current limit for AFTER the initial debugging is done. Also, voltage and current display on all three channels. Photos and circuits available if this sounds interesting. The transformers, capacitors, V/A readouts and 0.8Ω shunt resistor were purchased - all other parts were on hand.

Daniel

I have talked with local people who wind custom transformers & the prices they are looking for are astronomical! Whenever I come across a second hand HV transformers at reasonable prices I always buy them. Thanks for the video Paul!

I remember your Heathkit Signal Tracer restoration years ago. I bought one in mint condition and restored it. Great gear to help find faults in my other radio equipment. Also, your ATR inverter PSU restoration would be a great precurser to designing and building a battery powered inverter with B+ !!! I studied and purchased a few Heathkit GP-11 Vibrator inverters to learn more about power electronics, and although not really powerful enough to run anything too power hungry, they're ok for being built to a dollar value with whatever spares Heathkit had on hand at the time. But a battery powered DC-DC converter would be awesome!

Jonathan Hughes

Keep it that way. don't talk about it on Youtube. it will Just drive the price up. the Regency Police radios that I used to get for really cheap for parts. Like power Transformers and vacuum tubes are getting very expensive now.

Tom Harris

There is a company making some Western Electric audio tubes and boy are they $$$$!

Rick kennard

An in depth explanation would be awesome

Larry { N7LUF }

Paul you got me excited in your upcoming project. Sweet dreams Paul ;-)

Bill Hanks

Hi Paul, I would certainly like to see an in-depth explanation of the the Tungsol circuit. There would be much for me to learn with that! Excited for the new projects also! And yes, make sure to get some sleep! lol
