I should have been a girl - Chapter 13

So many times in my tender youth years, I would lay in bed at night crying because my real self was to remained trapped and realizing with age, there is no god who I can pray to for a release into the life I desire with a family as touching, caring and loving as Alyssa has earned and found for herself. I can look back now and realize the incredibly difficult position I put my parents in when I spoke of my true self. These sorts of topics, sex, trans, were just not tolerated in the 50s and 60s. With my upbringing that contained no lessons of caring, gestures of love, no trust of youngers being able to know themselves, I began to accept, but not understand, that my needs, my feelings of the girl screaming to get out, would and could never be part of my life. Each year I could feel the bondage of my sentenced misery get stronger and more toxic. My life, my body belonged to my parents, not me. Nightly tears became the norm. My future was guaranteed to be horrid. Jem has created a family who live, care and interact the way families should behave,… A growing child requires the freedom to grow, the parental trust to let it occur with support and teaching and the space to allow this young life to mature and blossom, not to be controlled with an iron grip, threatening eternal horror and pain upon the child, regardless of what they feel or do, because the fantasy of original sin is an overbearing weight that can never be released. Religion is toxic and dangerous, especially the more conservative it becomes. All of our lives in the LGBTQAI community deserve far more respect than a limited thinking “family of god” could ever allow. Peace to you all. ☮️💟🕊️
