🕑 Added 2025-06-24 11:47:59 +0000 UTCSo guys, in the last chapter I just realized i missed out on a great opportunity. I realize that the whole purpose was a time skip for Max and that's how i've been viewing it as an author.
But, in Max's world, he has had 5 years to sit and ponder stuff, which could include developing and refining new techniques. I normally don't like to do stuff like this off the page, but it makes logical sense that he might have developed a few new tricks.
How do you guys feel about this? I don't want it to be as if he can just come up with anything on the fly now and then point back to, "oh yeah he learned that while on Ri Ben" kind of thing.
But should Max have learned some new tricks? What are your thoughts? And if so, what tricks?

All great points made by the commenters, one point that I would like to make out is his spar with dual daggers with mal’kira he zoned out and held his own quite well, I think his spiritual prowess and mental fortitude should be mentioned as well since he was worrying about developing his inner world and mastering spirit techniques for his coming up match

I think the time skip chapters should be broken into year long periods of what he's learned during that year . I do agree with someone else's comment here , I think he was too young to have as much cultural knowledge as he's shows to have from pre yee earth. It isn't a super big problem as a reader personally but is a bit of a plot hole . Especially when I look at my nephews who are about the same age as when max was taken I think references should come more from bunker villagers and even kelsey . In regards to kelsey I think she would want to go to fight on the hell worlds too . She's kind of been just a supply transport / protector in place of max for a while . I think the pricess in her greed would want to send another tribute anyway . I think at least another villager lighting their flame would make sense as it was hinted early on that terrans that go through alot of hardship inregards to demons have the potential. More flames on earth would make it a larger target and open up more possibilities in the future . But yes in regards to him having upgrades to abilities while doing the time skip absolutely . And he should totally test them out on any remaining deep dwellers on the planet before leaving it ( maybe one or two ) . The demon within him should also start to become more and more angry the longer he stays in others inner worlds but inversely it should be helping the struggler because he's making connections , learning , growing . I think mal should totally outshine max and that fuels the struggler . I started listening on audible then when I ran out I googled you and came here . Its been a great read / listen so far . Keep up the great work . As an aspiring writer myself you've deffinitely helped spark my want to put pen to paper again.

I think maybe, like others have said, a general upgrade to his abilities like he did with Mark of the Giant. Just new, more powerful versions of his combat and non-combat techniques that are flashier and maybe come with some cool new effects.
