Great reaction. As far as the preparations for helm’s deep... they didn’t have time to gather food or do anything besides get themselves armored up and in line. There was very little time for anything. And they’d have to have the toxin or whatever available for the trench in large quantities and then the people that dug the trench would need time to recover their strength before they were any good in a battle. I agree that would be helpful but i don’t think logistically it would have been a possibility. :)
