As an Aussie who's family came to Australia thanks to the potato famine all I can say is this stuff did happen and as hard as it is to watch it's a side of things that needs to be told and known. Also I am the child of an alcoholic but it wasn’t my Dad. My Dad was amazing. My mum was the alcoholic and abusive one. Also in my experience I haven’t known any catholic child that was given drugs from the communion. I wouldn’t say your friend was lying but I can say it isn’t what always happened. Not every boy was abused by priests either. I’ve had the communion myself and certainly didn’t get high.
This was my choice .. the movie is excellent. Autobiographical story of the author growing up poor in Limerick (my hometown) Ireland. Well worry the watch.
