DevLog: Remake Before/After Preview

First off, to those of you that have stuck around for the first month of the remake, I just wanna say thank you for your support and your faith and just for being willing to put up with me for a little while longer while I put a heavy coat of polish on this thing (or maybe you just forgot to shut the billing off).

So I've been a little more quiet on here than what I wanted to be and that's mostly because the beginning of this remake requires a lot of set lighting fixes and just general organizational stuff. I haven't shot pics in the old dorm room in a long time so it needed some work. but going back to some of these old sets has been a lot of fun but is pretty intense to set up at first. However, the early time spent on these should help make things quicker in the future so my silence has been more of an organizational investment.
But I wanted to show off some of the vibe of the changes.
If you're new around here, I've already shared a few early promo shots here as well as generally outlining the plan for the remake. I wanted to walk you through some images here and share a few before and after pics to help show off some of the changes.
So join me and follow along with my little slideslow. Also, keep in mind these images are still in 4k and have not had any postwork Photoshop fixes on them. So if you see some minor errors, that would likely be fixed by Jordyn in the postwork. The images will all be resized into 1080p as well. While this will make the images smaller, it will actually increase their clarity just like the shots we see during the endgame.
Pic1- Zack: For those who follow me on Twitter, you've already seen this pic as a teaser here. What you may not have noticed is the eye color. In the original game, Zack's eye color changes 3 times during the game. That's because I'm color blind and hit a wrong button somewhere and didn't actually realize it. So then I later corrected it only to fuck it up again (I'm amazing, lol). So in the remake, Zack will actually have a new eye color that is slightly different from the original game. It's now actually a combination of all the mistaken colors that I had before. I just rolled them all together as a way to preserve the joke on myself and it's kind of an added easter egg for those of you that like that kinda stuff. However, the new eyes are much better quality and have more of a depth to them than any of the eye shades I used in the original game.
Pics 2, 3, and 4- Braden Intro: So I've mostly been showing off Zack stuff and we haven't gotten to see Braden in the remake yet so here is literally our first look at him. Pic 2 is the Before pic from the original game and is one of the earliest shots of Braden when he first walks in. The remake will have more of an... entrance... that includes Braden carrying in a huge stack of boxes (Pic 3) before collapsing onto the bed. It's kind of a comical scene but it also is a nod to how strong Braden actually is despite his smaller appearance. Pic 4 is the first face shot we get of Braden in game. It's a much more dynamic scene than the original had with some dialogue changes. You can also see in Pic 4 that Braden's side of the room is completely empty-- unlike the original where he moved in and somehow all of his family pictures were already there. The remake will actually have him unpack and put his side of the room together.
Pic 5, 6, and 7- Cafeteria Before/After: This is what I've been working on this week. Pic 5 is the Before shot of the first cafeteria talk and Pic 6 shows the updated version. Now we have hella better lighting and yes... there's actually more students at the school and they actually eat. We'll also be seeing more facial expression changes here (Pic 7) than we did before. I threw that last one in just to give the Braden fans some more screen time. Braden's eyes have also been updated to add more depth than the original version had but the color did not change.
So that's all for today. I'll likely do another Dev Log very soon once I start working on the shower area as well as some other new things that are going to be added that weren't included in the original.

Oh for sure. I want to do the rest of the story right but I don't want to give the appearance that I'm milking either so hopefully people are able to recognize the difference and that justifies why I'm doing this. The beginning is definitely rough

yeah, he looks really different without the glasses again. and yes, lol, that box is gone. So that box pops up in the dorm room as well. That's actually a shadow cast from the spotlights. I had so many damn lights in the old scene trying to make things light up that it was casting shadows in like 20 directions at the same time. Which is where that stupid box came from. That thing shouldn't be seen in the remake :p

thanks a lot. i actually want to make this remake worth it. A lot of people do remakes and do the exact same thing or enhance the images by like 2% and you can bare, if at all, tell there's any changes. I want this to be a staggering change to hopefully make an already good story even better

haha. it's the little things that make a difference. i can't guarantee that the food will slowly disappear as they eat it because that would be intense really quickly but the attempt to make it more detailed is there
