🕑 Added 2021-01-26 16:52:38 +0000 UTCLet’s talk about game systems this time. Story events and lewd are all awesome, but sometimes I like to take a break from writing/rendering and implement a new system for the game.
Occupation suggestion (when you tell Lyriel to go clean something else or just take a bath) is one of such systems currently in (re)development. I intend to finish it in time for 0.5.2 or at worst, for 0.5.3. I’ll go into more detail in one of the next few dev updates.
Once done, this system will need some updates now and then, but it shouldn’t take too much of my time. For example, the House map and the “autopilot” system only requires maintenance when the House itself expands, and the “topic talk” system is working behind the scenes for a long time now, allowing me to add player-triggered events with “talk about” dialogue options.
So I want to start working on another system once occupation suggestions are fully implemented. I will now list a couple of ideas, and you folks will choose one that you think is going to be most fun.
Activities for the MC
This is probably the least “systemic” option, and it will require a lot of extra content creation effort. Right now, MC can do a few things around the house - search the fridge, search the dresser, lift some weights, study books or meditate by himself, and… And that’s basically it.
I can add quite a few more nonessential activities, like taking a shower, bathing, reading a fiction book (or a dirty magazine), swimming in a pool, watching TV (by himself), even masturbating (and imagining some fantastic scenes).
Then I can add some events and scene of girls joining in on these activities. Naomi may join you if you’re watching the TV, Lyriel may come in to clean the library when you’re reading there. Rae may jump into a shower with you, and Cait may come into your room while you’re rubbing one out. Stuff like that.
Post-event girl-initiated talks
This is another not really systemic option. It will require some dialogue backend updates, though, so I’m lumping it in. Oh, and it will require a lot of extra writing, but I’ll try to manage.
Some events leave a lasting impression on the girls, but most of them don’t talk about anything that’s not related to them. To me, it feels like a big missed opportunity. Why shouldn’t Rae have a few words with you after our elf gets her swimsuit? Or do you think Naomi isn’t noticing Cait sneaking around with some lewd magazines?
And the fact that you need to talk to everyone yourself even if they have something to say is a bit boring. Why shouldn’t they come up to you, or at least hail you when you’re passing by. I believe that this addition will bring a lot of life to the game. It might become annoying if everyone wants to talk to you all the time, but I think I’ll be able to manage it.
Sleeping with the girls
No, not that kind of sleeping, I mean the basic act of sleeping in a bed together. I’m not ready to commit to walking around at night just yet, but I can at least add the ability to sleep with the girls.
Right now you can only spend the night with Naomi after letting her ride you, and you wake up in Rae’s bed after some events. Part one of this addition would be the option to ask someone to come to your room or spend the night in their room more or less at will. But as I said earlier, no walking around, it will be a simple menu with some possible dialogues and outcomes.
Part two of this addition will enable girls to come to you and ask to spend the night in your bed/come to theirs. Maybe it’s Rae wanting to snuggle a bit. Or maybe Cait read a scary book in the evening and doesn’t want to sleep alone. And there probably will be lewd extensions of all the sleeping scenarios some time in the future.
Girl-initiated activities and sex scenes
As with the talking, almost all activities and repeatable sex scenes are initiated by the MC right now. One exception is Cait coming into your room in the morning. It’s a special case, though, and I’d like to make a more comprehensive and genericized system for it.
I’ve experimented a bit with girls initiating some events lately, Naomi or Rae will come to find you when it’s time to practice etherwalking with Naomi, and Lyriel comes to you when she wants to do a house tour for Yona.
My plan is to expand on that, and make girls come to you throughout the day. Lyriel may ask you to help with cleaning, Rae would love another oily massage, Naomi needs a spotter for her lifts, and Yona will offer to wash you in the morning.
And then there’s sex, of course. Rae sometimes gets horny all by herself, and Lyriel feels underappreciated when you’re fooling around with everyone but her, you know. And Naomi just needs sum fuk now and then.
Girl inventories and related scenes
Uhhhh… Yes, ice cream for Rae. And also whiskey for Naomi, sweets for Cait, something for Lyriel and Yona.
But the actual new thing is going to be adding inventories for the girls, moving away from simple variables towards greater flexibility. Then I’ll be able to easily add conditions for newer events (like maybe providing someone with a dildo, or a butt plug, wink-wink), add some totally new events, and provide some light grind to help stave off the boredom during the event downtimes.
Don’t worry, I’m not going to force you to collect 100 wolf pelts to see some new lewd. Although...
Moving all the events and hints into the quest log
This is the least content-dependent, and the most code-dependent change. I think it would be much nicer to have all the events in the same place. The abundance of side events makes the love app a bit too unwieldy, and it’s not always easy to see event progress.
The quest log will need a lot of quality of life improvements like filters, sorting, some sort of color coding (or maybe new icons or something). I will also need to go through almost all the quest files and update the quest names, descriptions and all this stuff.
I’m still not sure if the end result is worth all the work, to be honest, but I think it will be.

Any form of initated action or event by the girls would be enough on it's own but you added scenes to that so voting went from choices to choice, Zanith :p

I would like to see the magic/etherwalking aspect of the mc developed more. We have a manual combat fight game..how about a magic based fight game? In general how about more conflict?

I mostly left the vanilla save system alone, tbh. You can always go to .../Android/data/com.zanith_one.ahitr/files/saves via any file manager and delete the files yourself, just be careful with that.
I am really looking forward to it. Also if I may ask but is there a way to delete your save file? Say I accidentally saved two of the same playthrough and I wanted to delete one so it doesn't drive me nuts. I am on Android by the way unless that hasn't been implemented

For most of them, it's actually the added content that's going to be more of a problem. But yeah, I'd love to add all the options to the game eventually.
Can't deny, would be pretty nice seeing Lyriel come looking for you to get her freak on. Wanting the pleasure herself. Be like a new side to her. From her regular attitude.
The idea of the elf coming to you wanting sum fuk but also not wanting it to seem like she wants it? Count me in.

All these ideas sound amazing. They do add some extra immersion during the play through. Even if the rest don't get picked I assume they would even get added down the line? I understand the programming will be very intensive trying to implement them.

I think you should do the quest log overhaul regardless of where it lands in this poll, in addition to the winner(s). It would be a great QoL improvement, but no one's going to vote for it when there's the potential for more lewds (including me lol).

Ideally, I'd like to implement most or all of those. Some may get superseded by something else, most unpopular options might never see the light of the day. We'll see.

I agree with wild bill. Also I really like all of these, will the others which do not win be implemented later do you think and we are just voting for the priority of the new mechanic?
