I got a single lesson on ADAT, but that was it--never used it.

I think we must be around the same age, in regards to the 'last of (partially) analog kids' comment. When my first band recorded in 2001 it was to DAT and ADAT. We were always somewhat horrified with the results (probably due to our lack of talent more than the recording tech). But, in 2003 we 'discovered' an analog studio and that started my lifelong interest (some might say obsession) with analog recording. I've been lucky to use and acquire many pieces of equipment over the years, but I maintain an appreciation for decks of all types, from single-motor Sony's to Studers, it's all fascinating (still)! I'm an Otari guy myself, our studio is built around four Otari decks and a TAC console. If you ever find yourself out east I think you'd appreciate our collection of junk, i mean, equipment.

We've come a long way since '75. Closest I ever got to working with something like that was a decrepit half-track deck early in college--totally worn out, probably never maintained either--sounded horrid--had to use re-re-re-recycled tape on it. Might've been a mastering deck some 30 years earlier, but it was just sad by the time I saw it. Of course, the school went all-digital my second year (2005-06)--I got to be the last of the (partially) analog kids.

I believe so, but I can't say for sure as the TEAC/Tascam was a gift and it's never worked since it came to my posession. It's also limited to unbalanced in and outs, so not an audiophile deck for sure. TBH, even though we have decks in our studio that do 30 IPS most clients use 15 for the performance to cost ratio.
