How I Made My 1TB Custom iPod + GIVEAWAY
🕑 Added 2024-08-02 16:00:14 +0000 UTCI just wrapped up the 4 part iPod series, which included a short segment of me modding my iPod, but today I'm showing you a little more about the process, what went into it, how many I made, and how you can win one yourself.
Since you're watching this on Patreon, that means you're a paying member which means you're already entered to win the iPod. The winner will be picked randomly and announced on a livestream on Saturday, August 17th.
See you then!

MATERIALS
None of this is sponsored, this is just what I used:
All iPod parts were ordered from Elite Obselete Electronics at www.eoe.works
The backplate was ordered from Ali Express and engraved at Vanguard Audio Labs https://www.vanguardaudiolabs.com/
I also used a toolkit and magnetic repair mat from iFixit, and installed Rockbox (www.rockbox.org) which is the custom software.
And here's the video tutorial I followed along with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TukXnQT-Ieo&t=1742s

Update since posting on your video: My good ol' Zune maxes out at 120gb... so I guess I'm crossing my fingers for the drawing and going back to the drawing board if not haha Guess software will never recognize more than that.

Awesome series, really enjoyed watching along. Been thinking about a lot of similar digital minimalism issues recently and came across your channel at the perfect time. Going to be picking up an iPod sometime soon and doing some similar mods. Love the idea of bringing some intention back to my music listening (like I get from vinyl), but still being able to take it on the go Also your videos are just a blast to watch. Super engaging and the production quality is great. Keep up the awesome work!

I love this. You inspired me to get an iPod on eBay. I’ve got it connected but it won’t see all my music as I think my Apple account changed over the years. Now I need to win yours so I can listen to all my stored music (I’m not brave enough to rip the guts of out mine!)

Absolutely class. Question? Where is the best place to buy music, so the artist/producer get the highest cut?

Your videos helped me make the decision to try it as well. My iPod is one of the harder ones to upgrade though 😅

It was very terrifying at first, there's LOTS more footage of me being cautious while opening it, but by the second, and especially the third iPod, it was easy, just had to get used to how it all works

Great video. I'd be terrified to mod. I break things too much.

Gotta say, this whole series of videos has been inspirational. if it wasnt because i work in I.T. i think i would make these changes. the only real social media im on is IG because my friends just want to send me memes and what not. I wanna make an effort to get my albums on vinyl and not just have an iPod. thank you for the vid series bshaw! keep it up!

I know it's picked at random, but I just wanna say I need this bad lol - I'm never gonna be able to afford my own, but I stopped using streaming services for music this year and I need a way to keep taking my music with me without using data and streaming. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞
