I fully concur (1971)! Most of the neo soul artists are GenXr’s that grew up on a nurtured by 70’s music. Maxwell, D’Angelo, Eric Benet, and Erykah Badu were 90’s conduits of the music of their childhood. I know I’m grateful for the time period we’ve lived through!

…Oh and as far as when would have been the best time for you to be born…I think it’s safe to say you should have been a ‘Gen X’r’ (1965-1980…myself 1972 👍). Born in the 70’s, an adolescent to teenager in the 80’s, and in your 20’s in the 90’s. That way you’d have been introduced to ALL of the best music at the best time! (Like me!) But you’re getting to make up for it now so it’s all good!

Hey Amber! Fun fact about this track and the album it came from: 2 of the musicians from Sade (Sade’s band is ALSO called ‘Sade’) played instruments and produced some of the tracks, so their musical influence is all throughout this album. I strongly suggest a full album listen to ‘Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite’ and the following Sade Albums: Diamond Life (1985) Stronger than Pride (1988) and Love Deluxe (1992)….although truth be told, all of their albums are fantastic (those 3 are my favorite!) Happy Listening!
