Veridescent

People like to see models of situation that are useful. Thus conflict, suffering, and desired agency give symmetry. The brain physically soeaking fibds little conception of such examples from real life people to those unseen in a book. Empathetic resonance can scale vast distances nonfiction and fiction both

Lazerus56

it's not for me either

The Human

This chapter isn't in the collection I don't think

Noah

Gramps guessed that would happen from the very beginning. In one of the earliest chapters he pointed out to Tian that Karma balances out, and that his incredible struggles from birth would “even out” eventually!

Noah

The light body, heavy hands technique basically lets him have ultimate control over his momentum. Additionally, a rope dart might be the weapon that is most impacted by subtle changes in momentum. I don’t think the art works “on” the rope dart itself. It’s just that the art lets him move way quicker than normal, while still retaining his power, which lets him contort the rope dart more effectively.

Noah

I don’t think this is it. She would have just acted way more overtly

Macronomicon

That sir, is a well-condensed list.

I was abstracting out to make a point; to your point it’s much more complicated. I was pulling mainly from Eric Edson’s argument on what makes a character likable. Courage Unfair Injury Skill Funny Just Plain Nice In Danger Loved By Friends And Family Hard Working Obsessed (You need at least 5)

SS example was impactful because he was doing it to save a little girl he felt responsible for because he couldn't save her family. the drama was built into the isolation. it wasn't only waiting for him to get back. And it resulted in a lifelong bond with her. Isolating the MC from everyone doesn't feel like the ideal move here. More to the point, the story's already written, so...(shrug)

Nonnyor Business

Give it a couple chapters.

Suffering is guaranteed. I pray I never meet my characters, they would beat the absolute piss out of me.

Edmund C.

Suffering is strangely one of the most effective ways to make a character likable (think MGG). But it’s your story, I don’t know your vision.

Edmund C.

Author, I shall share with you a great secret that makes the audience ravenous. The key to any narrative is character drama, so: finish building your setup, then make everyone think he died heroically or smth. Trap him in the dessert for like eight years for a timeskip/power up (nothing too crazy). Make it horrible so you also get some empathy. He comes back AND… drama with the cast. I think Super Supportive did something similar to great effect. That trauma was beautifully milked. Also if you’ve read any manhwa you know that sort of thing happens often.

Nonnyor Business

Thank you, yes, it is very exciting!

Im sure you noticed that Sky has hit top 10 Ongoing on RR and Top 3 Rising stars! Congrats you deserve it!

Tom C

Was that them? I can’t remember what happened at the start 😅 oof that’s a lot of karma between them

Kelsey

I didn't get that vibe, either. I got a more "I'll watch your career with interest" feel.

LUXRUS

The Hong stuff is coming back… she wants to nip him in the bud before he remembers that they killed his entire family

Grant Prater

lighter arm -> more acceleration -> faster dart movement is what I'd guess. Limited by rotator cuff, tendons, etc. but those are already superhuman or close

Jake Anderson

I really like this story because it is so grounded. Why does the light body art extend to his weapon? Doesnt make a lot of sense except that it makes the rope dart more useful

Mon

Not sure why I don't get the feeling Hong is exactly malicious towards Tian right now. I know people think she wants to gut him because of what she said, what grandpa said, and what Tian feels, but it doesn't make sense to me. I guess we'll see as the story progresses...

Deathly_God

Interesting that our MC was cursed with terrible, awful luck at birth. But since Grandpa entered the picture, he's been having nothing but relatively good luck. He found the Truffle by chance (and also didn't just straight up fall off the cliff to his death). He found the Lotus/Snake pond without spending years lost in the woods. He was finding enough food to eat along his stay in the woods, and didn't encounter anything he couldn't handle (or totally outrun). He ended up at the best Outer Court he possibly could have... Seems to me Tian has been rolling some mega lucky dice ever since Grandpa jumped into his life.

Bookworm bibliophile

Who knows it is not like the Hongs didn't order the eradication of his family

JTP

I was just thinking everything was fine too well for Tian.

Tom C

Is Hong trying to protect her granddaughter? Not entirely sure why she has it out for Tian, must be an immortal thing! TFTC
