IMO It’s a mix between established tropes but with a twist: old grandpa supporting him but is an accompanying spirit. inverted tropes: gets to a sect and his brothers are all supportive, it’s a supportive environment. And disregarded tropes: MC is not handsome at all at the beginning. Also body is borderline broken. This is great because it all happens in front of the backdrop of a standard cultivation world! So the supportiveness is an anomaly for the story world. It’s like it’s going against its own parameters which to me is really interesting. Rock throwers abound! This was my basic thinking as to why it grabbed me. Coupled with flowing prose and compelling characterisation of secondary characters as well as frontline.

This needs to be added to the collection. Currently it skips this chapter

I want you to know this chapter was properly scheduled to go out a ten o'clock. Just... you know... improperly scheduled for PM instead of AM.

Ah but thats part of the secret, such a dynamic is what facilitates true "talent". Support, aid and knowledge passed on and built up

Exactly my thoughts. It’s not just a dog eat dog world where pure talent is the only way up and then you treat everyone like crap because you’re treated like crap when you were weak. It’s talent + luck + people giving you chances. It’s more realistic than the contestant face slapping in a lot of cultivation novels.

I have been thinking a lot about this novel and why it's grabbed me so strongly - I think the secret sauce is in chapters like this. You capture both sides of cultivation so well, but I think this chapter is where you really emphasize the part of cultivation novels that can be a little quiet. I think this is the quote that nails it: "I knew nobody wanted me to stay. They would have all been bitterly disappointed if I did stay." Tian meets people constantly who want to pull him up. They don't necessarily expect him to succeed, they don't necessarily plan to do the work for him, but they are genuinely like.. rooting for him. Fu, going to bat to get him a cultivation art the court could usually not get. Fu's master, giving him two arts that were possibly curated specifically for him, in the event that he "deserved" them. Wu, here, stopping to give advice and comfort even when she is so far above him. And that culture isn't just for Tian, it's for everyone. A huge, giant circle of people surviving life and death battles and then paying it forward. It's such a dark world in some ways but it's also interconnected and full of people who actually care. Sure, not every character is like that - that would be boring. But enough are like that. Enough that it makes sense.

Yup these are definitely backwards. Luckily it's in a place where the reversed order didn't really spoil anything exactly.

I like Auntie (u)Wu

I think the chapters today were released out of order.
