It's a teaching lie.

"But it was the best they could do, given everything. And since they had been around for tens of thousands of years, the ‘everything’ under consideration was enormous." Ok, that above. [10's of k of years] It keeps coming up, like a splinter on the tip of a finger. Mesopotamia to now is ~6k. The idea that anything would "..that's just the way it is...", be unchanging and unchanged, for anything close to that long is worth giving a long think. Even within Xania/Daoism, "the Dao is change". Looking at history, change happens when smaller states experience an existential crisis that moves slow enough for them to take action but fast enough to not be a "not on my watch" sort of thing. In general, they implement something that has already been invented, but would be disruptive to the "status quo" - like gunpowder/firearms (England/France), slavery -> solider -> citizen (Rome), "inclusive nationalism?" (Carthage), "democracy" v3.0 (US), some new level of "total war" or whatever, etc. Results vary. For each time this ends in "a new inevitable normal", there a lot more attempts that we do not remember at all. "What thing that produces more", the more being whatever provides competitive advantage. Law. Religion. Tool use. Math. Rights. Currency. XYZ suffrage. Technology. Corporations. Public Education. They are a thing because the cultures that didn't get with it produced less. Rewind: [10's of k of years]. No one ever tried "lets try it without the slavery thing" or "lets try giving tools to our peasants" or "what do ya'll think about having an educated middle class?" because ... what? Because no Sects ever have been on the losing end and given a thought to trying "disruptive ideas"? I mean, blood rituals, bugs in peeps, making pills from kids ... doesn't look like there is a lack of peeps willing to step outside of "norms". Even if you have a dark age ... how long can a dark age last?

In spite of the world. Truly no greater motivation.
