Duck_Giblets

Would be amusing and ironic if he didn't have a problem with metal or earth, instantly grasping a complicated non affiliated aspect. Beautiful work with the fire, and Thankyou for not dragging it out for a week

Duck_Giblets

I like this too. It's not spoken speech, it's directed thought.

João Vene

The whole thing is going to end up being about the Mad God having a traditional Asshole Xianxia MC mindset, isn't it? The "I alone am the honoured one" (derogatory)

João Vene

The new formating works well. I think the important part is differentiating spoken speech from inner, mental speech, and this does that fine.

Nùmenor

Beautiful Chapter! Great work.

TeDureShi

I always like ‘talking with spirits in italic with one’ and “talking just normal with two (no italic)”.

Sean Shivers

Millennial mage does the internal conversation well... Using - or * to denote the inner voice. This comes with the added benefit of having a lot of clarity for when multiple different inner voices are speaking

K

I like the new formatting

Edmund C.

Thank you for implementing my suggestion! I’m flattered, and it reads more smoothly now in my mind.

Retroburn

Paining is better. How would you "hurt" your own scars?

Oliver Carohan

I think they are different rooms

Gardor

"The invisible membrane stretched and popped, turning the sea of fire into pure qi. He stepped into the void, feeling his vital energy wicking away. " Wait, so the "exit" of the elemental rooms isn't actually into a different room? When he retreats from the qi void room in the center, he goes back to the elemental room he was in previously, it's just no longer attuned to whichever element? So it's not room 1 -> room 2 -> room 3, with 1 being elemental, 3 being the qi void, and 2 being unaspected between them? It's just two rooms? Dunno why it seemed like he entered a different room after the water trial room, to me. Edit: let's call the rooms A(1-5), B, and C, so people don't get confused about what I'm saying. A1 is water, A2 is fire, etc, B is the antechamber and C is qi void. I'm saying, upon "exiting" the water room (A1), it seemed like he had another room to go through (B) before hitting the center qi void room (C). But instead, he "solved" the water room and it instantly stopped being aspected, he never actually "exited" it until he walked directly into the qi void, and then returned to the same room upon exiting the qi void. When he leaves the qi void this time, he'll go back into the stalagmite filled fire qi trial room, it just won't be filled with fire qi anymore. Didn't pick up on that when it happened in room A1. I didn't think room 1 rotated elemental affinity, I knew there were 5 different rooms around a center room.

Afrisan

What about the ring? 💍

Ekko

So the new formatting works for me, doesn't confuse me in any way. Love that Tian has accepted the fire inside himself, even if it's just a small one. Compassion for others is something hard to keep alive, in a world where people are ruthless and selfish. That's why it's even more worth protecting I think. Tian is right, being alone sucks. Life is defined and enriched by the connections we make. No human is an island.

sebsebs

Ah little Tian, you're so bright already... it's blinding. I think the quote marks and italics combo works well, it's easy to understand what it means intuitively (since Grandpa uses italics and dialogue is in quote marks) and I don't find it particularly ugly. Thanks for the chapter

Albert Ng

Italics are no worse for understanding, and I personally prefer it.

God

Let him cook

Gardor

"He couldn’t walk without paining them." ->hurting?

Gardor

Putting it in italics is better, thanks. It's less about us knowing he's talking in his head, and more about it being a quick way to recognize who he's talking to without any other indicators in the dialogue, imo.
