Yanno, I really hope he does have a late growth spurt, just to shut up the various smug people who are so confident he will be short.

BurnNote

Humans are pretty good at endurance running.

mark harrell

Straight outta West Town

I’m sure a clone of Meng Hao goes incognito as a mortal for some reason… it’s later on in the I Shall Seal The Heavens story iirc. It was quite a well done incognito arc I thought

Who is truth?

pierre boucheron

The man apparently saw a kid and told himself: he needs a meal and to be warned about slavers. All signs point to : not a rock thrower, officialy tian-approved.

Deathly_God

Dang, how Tian describes the food merchants is exactly how Truth would. I didn't realize he had reincarnated into such a short body. At least his obsession with Body Cultivation hasn't changed!

Gardor

Feel like "jogging next to trotting horses through a whole city" would immediately blow his cover

Clara

Clearly every other cultivator powerbase has food producing talismans, and the monastery is just being made a fool of

senior brother Tian, thank you for inspiring this one to prepare its tea today with more care than the usual "chuck some leaves directly in the mug and pour boiling water over them, then strain with your teeth" strategy.

Jon Davis

It's chapters like this one that make me feel all over again how much of a breath of fresh air this story is for this genre. Certainly, going incognito amongst mortals is no new thing, but it's almost always from a perspective of abject superiority, where their flaws and weaknesses are truly highlighted versus the 'enlightened' cultivator. And of course, they'd never have any chance to be discovered, as almighty as they are. Tian feels like an alien barely managing to keep his shoddy human costume on by contrast, which is just a 10/10 decision. I'm loving this arc already.

There is a big question still of how they are feeding the horses. The waste being so large perhaps helps somewhat, and we know the nomads made some kind of deal with a demon that may help them survive as they do in the desert. But we also saw a bit of the ecology of the waste, one would expect fungi and lichen beneath the sand or within bits of karst to be the main sources of vegetation. But one may also expect such to have lots of minerals and potentially toxic levels of qi in it, so great for potential salt licks but less so for singular and long term food for horses and camels and quite possibly toxic in even that case. So there are missing intermediary steps even if the nomads are say harvesting biocrust using artifact talismans to give minerals and water to the given liche and such that exist pretty uniformly under the deserts sands and in its ravines for food and proccessing. Some answer may be had in the insects possibly given they also could be uptaking minerals and possibly be able to be ground into a mixed food that can work well for the horses, camels and humans( almost no animal is a obligate complete herbivore). And a grander question to be learned later of how they live in the gorge itself. Do the heretics provide any direct services? Does the cycle of slavery help facilitate any cycles of seeking heretical cultivation or stable little powerbases in the area despite the rate of people possibly being used up? Is the slave volume just that large going into the gorge that such doesnt outpace the use?

Ben Nikel

I mean. Tian doesn't really have any people-exploding skills. He could slice someone to bits with the rope dart, or punch them so hard they barf up their lungs though!

And the monastery makes no effort to integrate services such as those cheap talismans to invalidate the ignorance of their populace and cut off the value being given to their enemies. Likely because, since they arent doing so people keep going for nepostic and crony systems of corruption since service isnt uniform in their sect either and so resist any such attempts.

Anders Duus

Think he’s a street kid pretending to be a monk to stay out of trouble.

Lola

I like the commander.

Mikołaj

So Iron Gorge is trading worthless salt for their cultivation supplies (slaves)? No wonder they are winning.

Pinpenny the great lithian

The Tea Venerable is possessed of a great wisdom. May he find 6'1" in the future.

Greenie Boi

So they don't think he's a cultivator?

Maybe someone’s gonna explode attacking a monk

Martin Toder

I wish a daoist would.
