I have the same issue, 34 and 35 are locked for me

Anton

Uh, I think this chapter was unlocked incorrectly? The last chapter I have access to is 31, then it jumps to this one. I was super confused about what was going on.

Liam Zay

Being forced together for months at a time can do that. I've seen friends have falling outs and relationships ending after becoming roommates

Jordan Schmitt

Apathy is a political stance. It's essentially acceptance of the status quo.

Daniel Andrews

Honestly I didn’t really sense there was such discord in between each member until this chapter; Aside from Tian and that other girl. It sorta feels like a bit of a problem out of the blue.

Daniel McConville

All these people with very different opinions and ideals. It always fascinates me that people feel so strongly about things. People get so worried, so stressed. I don't think I've ever felt emotion that strongly for so long ever. I've always kind of felt that progress is always going to creep forwards, that history constantly repeats itself in cycles. Is total apathy a political stance?

Ben Nikel

Viewing a painted fire, and being moved enough to feel it burn you. It's a good experience despite the pain. The idealism and freedom of youth definitely adds a LOT to this experience. I might not feel that burn as strongly, but damn if it isn't great. <3

Andrew Simpson

Brother wang is a fellow social anarchist and I will bring him eye wash at the next defund the disciplinary squad protest.

William Johnson

Oh they're totally one passionate disagreement away from smooches.

Nonnyor Business

This comes up a lot, and the short answer is "How deep do you want to get into it?" Hang on. I'm going to try and post a picture. It will be on the main feed, not in a reply.

David Blomeyer

I want say something. Not even sure where to start. The above was one of the heaviest chapters ... or collection of words ... I have eaten in a while. Even coated in fiction, the edges are still too sharp for safety, or comfort. I see the author, kids I grew old with, anger, grief, idealism, and far too much. Utility. The value of things is their function. Words, ideas, and wisdom only matter if they become action - be it that you look at something differently or that you behave differently next you run into something again. Otherwise, they have no weight. Our state of play is not a lack of idealism, thought, anger, desire for change, or reason. It is more a lack of a track record of these things working in your own lifetime. Ergo, apathy, hopelessness, and all that. Change has a very specific recipe, like good sourdough only with position, timing, and "luck" being even larger factors. It does not resemble the myths we tell, or what our hearts want it to be. We have many branches of science and while they are all concerned with change we do not have a specific science of change. Mostly, because it is uncomfortable - in the same territory as why we flinch when something comes at our eyes or why we rewrite our past so it is livable afterwards. Ideals + Competitive Advantage + Opportunity + Courage = Maybe, and afterwards it becomes the forest for the trees, inevitable. The how not to be examined or understood, as who trusts anyone with fire, much less kids. Chances are, you do not get to be a baker. You will write no constitution, wander not into one of histories crossroads, and your convictions, ideas, and ideals will mostly just burn. What you can do is arm whoever gets the chance. Arm them with ideas, dreams, vocabulary, pragmatism, and everything we can pass on. Both recipes and as much of the science behind them as we can give. That, and our love, and our faith. Baking isn't easy. It takes more then anger. I resent you sometimes Warby. I don't like being reminded. I am late for work right now. Not petty me thanks you. Not petty me probably needs to write a whole lot down.

I do think that Su isnt actually exactly antagonistic to Wang. But finds him a kind of worthy sculptor of her modeling. Notable that technically none of her points truly were assymetrical with his, but all asked for clarification and optimization. The rule example is fair, rules work best when they are clear and everyone knows them while dovetails wit the idea of maximizinf proper scripture exposure and education which may more easily make structural enforcement more self regulating. Her main line of difference jn some sense may be finding some structures of the hirarchy acceptable due to seeing her own role model work in them, but if you showed her a model where her own role modsl could still change and thrive she would likey accept it

William Johnson

Time for the most important battle in this volume, Tian vs Lin's heart demon! Converse!

Austin Cagle

Hey Warby, I was wondering if you had a "required reading" list, some of this things you write, be it in this or Slumrat, were very interesting. I'd love to see some of the books you recommend to people.

austin kutz

Probably a combination of all the above. She probably despairs at being unlucky enough to be less talented than the Jungle Rat and the Battle Maniac, and thinks their ideas of reform are them pointing fingers at her and her family.

jack

I'm glad this chapter was on a Monday.

Jeryd Greer

*mario voice* “Here we Go-oh”

Steve Wright

After Tian speed-running Dao comprehension and ascension to local divinity, Elder Feng figured a couple years for him to learn to live in community but Tian is speed-running that, too.

João Vene

I wonder what Lin thinks of the debate sessions. Both Tian and Liren are unambiguously superior to her in their understanding of the Dao and the elements, they succeeded where she failed. But she is from a traditional cultivator family, and they're debating reforms to the systems that prop up that. Does she think it's all bullshit and that Tian and Liren just got lucky? Or is she slowly despairing because the jungle rat and the battle maniac surpassed her in what should be her birthright? Is she blaming herself? Has she managed to find any healing at all in the barge?

Martin Toder

With the dao, 6' 1" is possible.

Pinpenny the great lithian

Chad Tian once more being the better person. Not the bigger person of course, his status as a short king is well known after all.

JackassofAllTrades

These chapters always end in mini cliffhangers, I know this going in but it still gets me every time. Thanks for the chapter! RIP to The Snoot!

Martin Toder

I appreciate your commitment to continue writing despite your pain. Thank you for the chapter.
