What if, and hear me out, the "true lords of the mountain" have been there for so long that they aren't birds, they're the ancestors of birds: Theropods. The Wise And Broadminded T-Rex and Velociraptor (or more likely Archaeopteryx and Microraptor), living the Tao high in the death zones. No, no, stop laughing. It all makes sense if you think about it.

Heh the Dao is in al things, I hadnt thought about it but yeah the patterns seen form their own accumulation of "humanity" and thus such is a way of cultivation as seen with the lin clan. The opposite is true too in allowing the cultivation of being akin to a animal. A small true pattern that is rather enjoyable while also navigating a bit of the sources "humans are literally the center of the universe" dynamic cleanly
