My question is.... We all experience multiple transformative shifts... Does having one early cut you off from the heavenly one? What makes that one truly different

On a side note. I've been wondering this for a while. Did no one else from Westown Temple make the cut? Or had Tian just been avoiding them? Well maybe they just haven't been brought up in the chapters so far but I miss the old brothers.

The Rui replacement is still speculation, but that Rui did mention four thousand years worth of teaching and the Elder Rui we know mentioned (at the end of book 2 when the depot was under attack) that “Four hundred years ago, it was me down there!” I think there’s very few ways to interpret that than for him to mean 400 years prior he was Earthly Realm.

I really like how you've set up the revelations. Many stories either don't describe heavenly insights or boil them down to something along the lines of 'fire is hot'. I enjoy how you so clearly set up the transformative mindset differences between those who do and don't ascend to the heavenly realm.

I almost want Elder Rui to see Tian being filial to someone else, just so he can see that it really is the monastery’s fault that Tian is this critical, and it is not a result of Tian being unable to have trust in authority. To be fair, he already has that type of loyalty towards Fu, even with their history. So maybe it really is only unconditional institutional loyalty that would satisfy Rui/whatever Daoist master has been spying (or even impersonating Rui at times? Unconfirmed).

Hes got a full left hand, and three fingers on his right? Or four fingers on his right? My gut says 8 fingers total, but i cant really remember, hasnt come up in a while. Cuz i feel like ascending to the Heavenly realm will probably be when he finally gets 10 fingers, wondering if theres another soup between now and then.

It is an interesting concept of dissonance actually noted in this book. So many times there are stories where they are so far advanced in certain parts and yet do not advance from it that just left unsaid and an odd part of the story.
