Roland Haller

The last chapter bring me here. I have too many pledges, but this is too good to pass up.

Leaf

"Xipuatl’s voice faded in her ears, and it was like she was hearing another voice, older and deeper, with a faint echo—so familiar, but where she’d heard it slipped around the edges of her mind. Look deeper, Mirian, holding onto the focus… holding onto yourself…." oh, the foreshadowing

FuriousDee

Didn’t they say they expected to be unable to have children which was why they adopted Mirian then were surprised when they managed to have Zayd

FuriousDee

Why?

Cameron Haider

I think things would make more sense if Mirian's father died before her mother went into hiding and then Gaius helped raise her.

Tyrone

Tin foil hat time! We have a little girl who is memory wiped and placed with adoptive parents (and used as a hostage) who had been struggling to have a child 1. When the real father shows signs of entering the area to search, the family gets a windfall of money and goes on vacation 2. The family eventually has a second child (also adopted). It then has a second windfall 2 and goes on the same vacation 3 when Dawn's Peace is stirring things up across the boarder? I predict that Mirian's brother (Zayd) is also adopted, was memory wiped (if it was even needed), and is related to Imbrahim in some way (likely a son). All from ch 171: 1. Mirian's parents were "trying to, ah, conceive for some time." 2. Mirian's parents came into money prior to the loop: "Twenty-seven pieces" (presumably silver) 3. Mirian's parents were doing the "same trip" with Zayd

Tyrone

My thought is that Ibrahim is her brother's father.

Morog T Tiny

I think we now know why Doctor Westerun had such a strong reaction. He is a black ops tech and suddenly one of his old projects is coming to his door, and that is never supposed to happen!

mike

He said that the drake has died more than once and it seemed to be actually alive? Maybe he can just realive himself when he feels like it.

Brian P.

When she was speedrunni g to get her book together she had Nezzar Industries as a front, as I recall. Prior to that it was her go to last name when disguised as a man.

Malir Blackspear

Does anyone have a recollection of when she last went by Nezzar?

Hurlzly

For the longest time I thought Ibrahim would be her father- but this is SO much more interesting

Metal(Liz)ard🏳️‍⚧️

She can finally remember to take the ring with her now that her memories arent being blocked, guessing its some form of necromantic focus

Brian P.

Given this line I suspect that is the case: > “Hmm. I know him and Dawn’s Peace by reputation. Likely why… So from his perspective in prior loops, a prophet arrives (maybe less urgently than now) and requires his help to defeat an enemy he already hates, giving him an excuse to go find his daughter. I have significant doubts Ibrahim mentions the end of the world. He quite likely doesn't mention other Prophets, either, as excepting Mirian they all seem to keep that close to the vest. Hell, it's possible he's like Troytin and has deluded himself into believing the end of the world is caused by his failure to get revenge fast enough for the Ominian or some other nonsense. So far all the prophets have different ideas on the cause on their own. Mirian is trying to research and consider evidence, though she's now focused on magic CO2. Liuan Var was convinced the "divine weapons" were responsible and probably would've stayed on that tack if not interrupted. Troytin thought the same but with a side of Battle Royale to become the one and true Prophet. Jherica thought it had something to do with the moon beyond it being a big explod-y thing. Gabriel just gave up. I'm hoping we get more on Ibrahim's outlook, and maybe make him not the cartoon that Troytin became.

mike

It may just be due to urgency. He rushed there faster than before because he knew someone else made it to the cave. It is possible he doesn't usually kill them.

FuriousDee

It doesn’t reflect well on Ibrahim that he still kills the wyvern despite who knows how many times he has had to improve his methods

Kyfe

Sounds like Gaius doesn't need motivation to go to war with Baracuel, just convinced it's the right time.

Mr NerfGun

I wonder if usually, Ibrahim even has to do anything to convince Gaius to work with him. He seems to know what Prophets are. It may be that he simply agrees to go on a conquest of Baracuel simply to go look for his daughter every time without consequences and never tells him why.

Matt H

In addition to what everyone else has said, I'm morbidly curious how Naluri even exists. From the very first memory we saw Gaius' finger was described to be cold. I take that to mean that he's been closer to death (or undeath/unlife) than life for Naluri's entire life, so I'm not sure how he managed to have a child in that state. He doesn't seem to be a stereotypical lich, but he seems closer to one than not.

gotag

Only problem with that is daddy being able to produce his normal reactions, which seems unlikely to me

Amadhe

I was rereading earlier chapters, it would be extremely funny to have more mentions of Buduka Boars.

Amadhe

Aughh, I NEED MORE. Luckily the next chapter is on Wednesday, only two days away.

Magesh S

Great chapter. Just think how the other prophets will behave when they know that the infamous necromancer is actually Mirian’s father. They already don’t trust her.

CrouchingWombatHiddenDropbear

Ibrahim is about to encounter the reverse uno card.

iloverugs

No wonder Mirian learned soul magic so fast. She was basically just recalling her lessons as a child.

Enthernal

Lots of interesting goodies here. One point you might want to clarify/rephrase a bit, your write "Her mother sighed. Telekinetically, she disassembled the exoskeleton of the rat." Since the whole segment of memory is written from a very heavy first person perspective, "she" always points towards Miriam there. In that line I suspect it refers to her mother, otherwise that opens a whole new can of interesting. Maybe rephrase it as "Her mother sighed, then telekinetically disassembled" or something similar? That way our theories don't get too crazy :D A lot of other interesting goodies her as well: - it seems Miriam already knew a bit of soul magic as a kid. I wonder how much of that was due to the ring, Gaius' teachings and her own 'genius' for lack of a better term. - it also interesting to see her mother can't use soul magic, even with Gaius around to guide her. It confirms some theories from the story, but seems to contradict her of normal magic and sould magic being different 'zones' of the same spectrum. - I wonder if her parents knew more then they let on in their previous discussion. It felt very open hearted at the time, but now it seems they might have known more then they let on. - She should finally go pick up that ring now. An find some more relicarium to bind it. - I can't wait how the talk with Ibrahim will play out. I hope she hides so she can finally get a read on him and what he's planning. I half hope there's more to him then we're led to believe, some underlying plan so he's not entirely selfish. On the other hand, if he is, it can open a lot of interesting options. - like Gaius apparently being familiar with binding anchors/needles to his body/soul, being aware of temporal needle (no one else so far mentioned one, just a void). With Miriam knowing how to remove it, a Gaius' knowledge and skill, they might just be able to pull off a transplant. Gods know Miriam could do with someone she can actually trust and confide in. And there just so happens to be a potential donor knocking on the door. - I see some good old fashion payback approaching :)

Erlost

Seriously. Definitely one of the best books/series that I’ve read.

Hunter8k

Peak fiction. Better than MOL idc

Luna

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Ronan Cadoret

Got me by 3 minutes here.

Ronan Cadoret

Something smart would be to hide, pretend she never came here to see what Ibrahim usually does to get the necromancer on his side.

CherMi

Honestly, the best option is for Mirian to hide. Conversation between Gaius and Ibrahim will go differently, but he won't know what exactly changed. Mirian isn't ready for conversation with Ibrahim right now.

Ecthe

But no matter how quickly he can reach the necromancer, there is no way he could turn him against mirian.

AlecL

SAAAAAAAAME

Anotherb Account

Love itttt, can’t wait for Ibrahim’s face

Ve1th

Depending on how the talk with Ibrahim goes the safest option could be to subdue him together and extract his anchor (concerns about sanity of others prophets be damned). If he turns out to be actively antagonistic to Miri, the risk he reaches the necromancer faster the next loop is far too great. Unless there is a way to mark his soul with a message to be read the next loop, but given his dervish training it might not be feasible…

Lena During

great chapter and thanks for including the first bits of the reunion in this chapter. having that cliff extended even longer would have been terrible.

Milo

alright who wants to bet that in prior loops Ibrahim used to promise Gaius the return of his daughter to motivate him into war with Baraquel. This meeting is going to be nuts, I literally cannot predict how it will go.

Max

I need more

Doleo

He certainly seems quick on the uptake but I guess you don't become a legendary mage by not being able to adapt and prioritise in new situations.

Robocreator223

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Fenrys .

Makes sense he's spent 10+ year creating plans that probably don't much account for the other prophets where as Mirian has spent a years activately doing things to disrupt the plans of another prophet. She's got the advantage.

Lamaschokolade

Ah, cliffhanger after cliffhanger. But that's fine it's quite the reunion. Even though Ibrahim barging in and disrupting the reunion. Quite rude.

Kadi

Mirian really seems to dismantle Ibrahim's schemes with trivial ease, doesn't she? Back in the city, now with Gaius. It must freak him out, considering how long he must have spent on refining them...
