From Mirriam-Webster: wake: the track left by a moving body (such as a ship) in a fluid (such as water)

Touch

Edit(?) The leviathan charged forward, leaving a massive *wake* behind it. Wave?

BlastYoBoots

I'd place my bets on the spellward repellant engine having angered it, or D-class mana from spell engines in general... there's a good chance they're philosophically opposed to spell engines, and since no invader would sail in without a spellward engine training the Leviathans to target those ships would make for excellent protection.

Not Real

I believe the answer was the catalyst worked. I don’t remember about the spell book itself

Clara

Back when she first met Liuan, she had a theory about being able to cast from her spellbook while it's still in her soul. Has she figured that out yet? Cause it might be helpful with hiding her spellcasting in a "no unauthorized casting allowed" country

I don’t really see why harpoons would have a much greater effect. Sure it could bypass spell resistance but I doubt ships like this could carry large enough one’s in sufficient numbers to do much damage. Besides the artillery did do damage and I am not sure how a harpoon would compare.

Shane T.

My crackpot theory is there’s a prophet in Tlaxhuaco that’s taken Druidic or Druidic-adjacent magic and turned it past 11. They’ve weaponized leviathans..🥲

lenkite

Feel like large, physical weapons would work better against these Leviathans. Massive propelled harpoons instead of underpowered magic artillery that has limited effect.

Yeah. I wondered if it is something to do with Xiopotls focus. I know that’s a wild swing, but it felt like they were insistent on something, and the scene in the boat made it feel like there could be some directionality towards him. Maybe the focus is from a dead leviathan baby?

FuriousDee

Do you mean the second because it reminds me a lot more of the one where she learnt from the soul fragments at the first city then saw one of the gods than when she was sitting on the pillar

FuriousDee

She should try using soul communication to see why the leviathans are upset

Awesome fight. The scope was well handled / written. Excited to meet the xiawhateverhowyouspellit tribe

Kadi

The spirit communion at the end suspiciously reminded me of Mirian's first enlightenment...

Every Sunday, right as I’m done procrastinating chores and finally about to start, my favorite ongoing story appears with perfect timing to push off chores even more. TFTC!
