Dev rant #2 - Survival mode: Life

Patreon has become, at least for me, more than just a place where people support the project - it’s also turned into a space where I can be real.
Not just as a developer, but as a person.
Or at least, that’s how it feels to me.
Thanks for being the kind of people I feel safe being real with.
Unfortunately, there won’t be an update this month.
To put it simply - I just wasn’t in the right state to work.
I went through a very difficult breakup with someone I deeply cared about.
It had probably been building for a while, but this month everything collapsed.
I needed time to crawl out of that quiet, chaotic space inside myself.
The good news is: I’m feeling better.
I’m sleeping again, back in my bed instead of the couch.
Bit by bit, I’ve started putting myself back together - moving forward, living, growing.
And slowly, I’ve been returning to working on the project too.
What I’ve been working on (and will continue after recovery):
Upper part of the map - the starting zone, including a safe area with survivors’ base, traders, and quest-givers
Working on the lore and slowly bringing it into the gameplay
UI overhaul
Carrying bodies and looting them
Reworking backpacks and pockets - no more “backpack in backpack” stacking: containers now have a carry weight limit
Entity system rework - local currency and character progression tied to it
Parasitic Network - with its own rules and logic; each infected creature has a purpose in the world
From a lore perspective, I plan to add a new need, to pee. (I know that for many this is a fetish, I think you will be happy about this) {No poop}
New animations
Traders
I’m not going to make promises about when the next update will come.
Right now, I need to get back to full strength - mentally and physically.
Just a few days ago, after my annual check-up, I was told I need two surgeries.
So for about two weeks after that, I’ll likely be out of action.
But please know: I’m still here, and still working - even if silently, even if in my own rhythm.
Thank you for your patience, support, and belief in this project.

I can’t promise I’ll be able to reply to everyone or say anything helpful - but I’ll read it.

I'm probably a lot older than you. I had a lot of relationships before meeting my wife. Some went longer than they should have even though I knew that they weren't the right person for me, but it was comfortable staying in a bad relationship vs. being alone. Eventually I realized it was unhealthy and broke up. It's hard to do, but it's more important to protect yourself and not compromise for less than you deserve. No human is perfect, but there is no reason to stay with someone that doesn't support you fully. Also one thing to remember, but is hard to put into practice is to ask yourself, "Am I the person I'm looking for, is looking for?" That can be a hard thing to accept, but maybe you're not right for the one you think you like. Don't force it.

Do yourself a huge favor with jiggle physics and look up generative jiggle physics. Its a mod for vrchat someone made that uses a polygon mesh instead of bone to make things jiggle. It looks so much smoother, and allows you to pick zones of the body that jiggle. So you can make jeans have a smaller zone to jiggle less or sweats have a larger mesh to jiggle.

The game is very good, but for most of the world's population it is not very well optimized, my configuration is an i5 10th gen, 24gb RAM, GTX 1650 ti and the game does NOT run well

It's will bloat your belly and will lead to pain until you not will deficate. Other wise big stinky belly explosion. It's not fantasy, it's a life. P.s: Come on! In MMORPG "Scum" or ARK: Survival Evolve this is existing and everyon fine with that. So what the problem for you to make this in your game? Because I don't getting this.

I agree to some degree with your statement but if you look only 2600 of that 17k are actually paid members so its not nearly as much, but still would appreciate more info on the game from the dev.

Sorry to hear what you're going through, but you're treating your community like a free piggy bank. 17694 members on Patreon alone, let's assume everyone is at the $4 range, meaning you're making over $60,000 a month - can you not hire some developers and a community manager? I don't want to sound like an asshole. I want you and the game and the community to thrive, but from what I'm seeing it's going the opposite direction

My friend loaded his game and everything he had equiped just desappeard. Everything else is ok but most of the important/hard to get things were equiped. Is that anyway to get everything back?

okay, I will try my best to keep it simple. I know it sucks, it can be an complete cut off and it can absolutely sting. Your experience is valid. If anyone tells you to "get over it." -- Then you need to understand that they are either trying to help and don't have an answer or are simply apathetic. Now, hear me out. In some strange way, the break up did you a favor. Reason is because you are so much better off having it end instead of trying to brute force a way through it. So much more damage is done from people who force their way through things thinking it will get better. Even with couples who communicate, because they may not be communicating correctly. So it can be a helpful frame to put in as "This person had enough respect for me and themselves to break up with me." -- Now, I may not know your case so I am trying to give you a very basic answer in hopes that it helps Breakups are the worst pain in our lives because they can be a severance of attachment. The same feelings can be felt when somebody you care about dies, because it is a cut off. You could also experience complex grief which is.... well, complex... it can be various ways you process this painful experience and it can show up in ways like anger, going to the gym, or even wild cases where you try your best to prove yourself to others, your ex, or in some worse cases, an abuser! Maybe seek some therapy if you can! I wish you the best. Use this opportunity to take care of yourself. You can't make the old relationship come back, you cannot make it better. However, you can make yourself better so that the next relationship you get into will be even more magical. I wish you the best! Don't think too hard on the past. Only use the past to better who are now. Don't use the past to judge who you are, it robs you the time and opportunity to become stronger.
