Patreon Billing Procedure - Avoid the Apple Tax!
🕑 Added 2024-10-29 07:55:52 +0000 UTCHi,
as I received a notification from Patreon I wanted to share that with you.
In my own words:
- From 1st November onwards Patreon seems forced to pay Apple a 30% cut of new subscriptions which (important!) are done through the iOS Patreon App. This only affects new subscriptions entered into from 1st of November as far as I understand. These 30% are on top!
As much as I like Apple - I develop SJX on an Apple - I think this 30% is excessive.
Here is how you can and should counteract this Apple "bridge troll" mentality and avoid the surcharge:
- enter into all (new) Patreon subscriptions for my page from 1st of November onwards only via the Patreon Website (not via the iOS app)
That should avoid any surprises. Running subs are not affected as far as I understand.
Now back to testing the BETA...

It is actually apple. patreon lost a fight with them and would have their app kicked out of the app store so they caved in. In any case -> avoid subscribing via app and everything is fine (you can even use the app to check patreon pages as long as you do not subscribe via the app)

No it does not generally. For - new subscription done via iOS apps - there is a 30% apple surcharge. Running subs will not be affected Subscriptions via patreon website (what i recommend) will not have any surcharge

Pls, forgive Me - not that I believe Apple to be lily-white ... Are You sure that it is Apple - and not the Patreon? The later is also ... err... shrouded in ... interesting practices ... It IS convenient to blame everything on the "Spoiled Fruit" ... There are reasons that many of us have been avoiding the use of iOS Patreon app by default ... using web UI under any circumstances in its stead ...

Yes! Fortunately with the workaround (subscribe via patreon webpage) it is 0% for Apple and 0% for the patrons :)

30%? That is insane. Unfettered greed at work.

phones are so vulnerable I am surprised anyone does anything with them other than order an uber...

Ha! The old "avoid paying with apps if you can do it on a webpage" doctrine once again is the shugarcane

Web access subscription is not affected. The Bridge Troll hides only in iPad and iPhone apps.

I‘ve made my subscription from the Patreon website anyways, not via phone- do I need to change anyways?

Bridge Troll mentality - I like that
