Ugh, I don't know why you can't reply to a reply on Patreon lol. But yeah I'm in the same boat as you in how i use refs. I asked because your cast shadows are always so excellent, and oddly the way you render knees is just 🤌

Thanks Boo! I'd say it depends on the piece and how familiar I am with the subject matter. That is to say, sometimes I don't use any at all, and sometimes I'll need to use quite a few. (For example, if I've never drawn a certain animal before, or it's been a while since I've last drawn it, I'll look some up) Generally though, I do try to draw things without them quite often, not because refs are bad in any way, but because I like to try and work my visual memory a lot, and I think if I don't have to rely on refs as much, it streamlines the process quite a bit. ;)

Your art has inspired me to start being creative too (I'm just coding all the time). Although I'm not much of a 2D artist, I started posing 3D models and it's very satisfying work!
