Cypress Sculpt Update!

When I take a video, it seems to not be as present, so I'm including a turnaround video of the sculpt in the attachments. I've also included a photo that shows the size of the sculpture as well. Yes, you're getting all 13.5" of Cypress with this sculpture lol.

Hey guys! It's been a while with this one. About 8 months to be exact lol.
the main reason for the break was definitely just getting busy with drawing, however there was part of me that was just seeing a bunch of issues with it, but I think my anatomy knowledge was just below where I needed it to be to know how to fix them. So, I let it sit, and waited, and waited... let it collect dust and waited some more... Finally things clicked and I jumped back into it! π
A bunch of issued derived from the proportions for certain body parts, mainly the shoulders, triceps, the anterior portion of the torso and the upper legs. I roughed up the whole thing so that I wouldn't be afraid to get rid of the details I'd added, and the then started piling on more clay. It took some time, but the proportions finally look decent.
Once that was all done, I moved on to the head. First thing I did here was actually pull the horns out and bake them, so that I would stop worrying about accidentally hitting them π (It helped) Next, I fixed the ears, bulked out the jaw line, elongated the snout (like a millimetre) and fixed the hair on the front and top of the head. (it was too busy and piled to high. The first 4 photos are before I adjusted the hair)
Next I had to do something that I had been dreading, mostly because I should have done it from the get go, which was to replace the soft sculpey eyes, with hardened clay spheres. I had spent SO much time getting the eyes right, so this part did hurt. Then again, it had been a long time since I'd worked on the sculpture, so that did help to ease the pain. π Once again, the first 5 photos are before I fixed the eyes, and then the rest are after. In the end it was worth it, because it looks better, and it was a lot easier doing the eyes without worrying about nicking the eyeball surface, and then having to smooth it out again lol. Also just for context, the eyes are only about 3 mm across, so it's like performing surgery on a sesame seed π So YES, having the hard eyeball surface there definitely helped lmao.
Tbh This whole process is making me want to get into digital 3d work, especially since I know how good 3d printing is getting. (It'd probably save a lot of time on this π) I think the main thing holding me back is the complicated interface for most 3d apps, (I'm not the most technically coordinated individual) but I guess I'd just have to get over it, and watch some tutorials or something. I do think it'd be worth the effort to learn. Plus there's always the possibility of it branching off into animation as well... Food for thought I guess π
So anyways, that's about everything for this update on him. Apologies for the lengthy text, I hope it wasn't too boring π

I was afraid you dropped the sculpt, but good to see you back at it. Think 3D sculpting has its pro and cons, and 3D printing is far from being plug and play like regular printer. But if you aren't afraid of technical stuff, I can help you and give you some advice :)

Woo, more Cypress sculpting! It's so nice to see and read about your progress with this piece, no need to apologise about giving us the details! I didn't even know pre-baking finer parts of the sculpture for stability was even an option but it makes so much sense π I'm sure you'd pick up digital sculpting swiftly if you went that route and would love to see what you come up with there as well π

Glad to see you got some quality time in with Cypress. Still amazed at your skill, and your description of the process. I like how you mentioned roughing up the details so you were more forward in working on the larger composition. And, I definitely don't tire of looking at your art...his form is shaping up well, and you've taken my appreciation of the minotaur form to a new level. As to the 3D part...that's interesting. You mentoned printing ...does that mean there's the slight possibility of a Cypress figure?
