Hi NileRed! As always, amazing video! I'm not sure how interested you'd be in redoing the experiment to try and achieve resistance to a higher caliber bullet, however, I still have a few ideas I thought I'd share in case you were interested. 1: Before treating the wood at all, drill multiple (very thin) holes into the end grain running through the entirety of the wood. This would (in theory) let the wood soak up as much of the chemicals as possible in the very center. The reason I say you should drill the holes in the end grain is because when crushing the wood those new cavities will likely collapse in on themselves following the other veins of the wood. 2: Let the wood cool down fully while still in the press. When wood heats up/cools down it loves to contract and expand. To mitigate that, keeping it under pressure until it's fully cooled down may help keep it from warping. 3: Use a harder/stronger wood. While Oak is already a hardwood, there are some woods that are hard or strong enough to make Oak look like playdough. For instance, Lignum Vitae aka "Ironwood" is roughly 3 to 4 times harder than English Oak. I don't know how much it may help in this case, but I figured a stronger starting material would lead to a stronger outcome. Anyways, those are just some ideas I thought I'd share. Keep up the great work!!

you should collaborate with somebody like demo ranch or brandon herrera. definitely watch some videos of people screwing around with real and homemade body armor to get some background knowledge of how body armor works. i bet two of those wood pieces laminated with a piece of kevlar could make some commercially viable plate things, like something between a steel plate and straight up fabric. this definitely would benefit from a follow up.

Nice video Nigel, but there is another species of wood just as cheap as pine, don't know if you can get it in North America (commonly available in Australia), but a timber called Meranti, has a tighter grain, and is just as cheap as pine
