Making an Azo dye
🕑 Added 2017-10-14 03:42:37 +0000 UTC Hey guys, first video in a while. There were a lot of delays. This one is also "technically" not done yet though. I still need to add the Patreon credits, which will be there in the final version. Don't worry!! Also, thumbnail, description, etc. I just wanted to get it out to you guys asap! The final video will be posted late tomorrow or Sunday Let me know what you think about it. Next video will be DDT.note: video has been replaced with "full one". This one also includes the Squarespace sponsorship.
My website was revamped a lot though, and you should check it out. I am proud of it. Also, I managed to snag the URL http://nile.red so that is pretty cool too.

That is definitely a cool thing to try! I didn't even know those little things existed.

I also posted this as a YouTube comment but I figured there's a higher chance of you reading it here: That's pretty cool. I just found an old notebook from about 7 years ago where I also made some azo-dyes. We used pieces of multifiber stuff to dye, which is made of several different types of textile. I made a picture of it https://i.imgur.com/yGNDf7y.jpg You can see how the dyes give different colours and attach better to some fabrics. Maybe a fun idea to use something like this multifiber stuff in future videos.
Cyanotype might make a fun video, not particularly difficult either

Thanks, I appreciate it!
Paul Grodt
I look forward to it. This channel is consistently fantastic!
Nile Red
I'll look into adding that.

you did not mention that azo dyes are sometimes used in dye sensitized solar cells. It is quite interesting.
"More dyes and pigments" - I wait with excitement and bated breath.
Nile Red
Yeah I'm excited to make indigo too!
Nile Red
Hey, number one is special in his own way!
Nile Red
I'm going to try and eventually make every type of major dye. So reactive dyes would definitely be covered (eventually)
Paul Grodt
Oh, I've also always been rather curious about (dichloro)triazine dyes, aka fiber-reactive dyes, aka Procion dye.
Paul Grodt
Great idea for a topic. I'd love to see videos on other dyes, including mauvine and 4-(Phenyldiazenyl)aniline (aniline yellow).

Please do! I'm needing a new pair of beakers too cause two of mine broke recently (:
Nile Red
Haha we will see if you're lucky :)

I forgot to add the contest link. I'll add it later tonight!
Nile Red
Yup. I'll do it eventually :)

Pretty Cool - I hope I get a sock... I really need one. ;-)
One of my favourites! Thanks!

Looking forward to the dye series! Don't know how I never knew you had an Instagram. I want a pair too!

Awesome! That Perkin Mauve is gorgeous. I hope that one's on your list!
Excited to see indigo! Some nice pastel pink and aqua would be great to see too <3
I'll take some too XD
Chuck Lynch
Sure, I'll take a sock. Not number one though.
"I'm going to start a series on dyes and pigments" yay!
