Thank you!! I’m really happy with this one. Excited that I found a trick for painting spots because I don’t have much patience 😅 I guess it’s vibes? I did try a couple different colors but this just looked the best. I think almost no matter what something will get lost, but that’s good! We love lost edges. I decided to loose the dark back into the background, since it’s farthest away from the head- the focal point.

I oh man the finished version is great! The colours on the head and details of the back plumage is 👌 When you choose the background colour, is it kind of vibes-based on the day or do you intentionally choose to make something pop? Or both?

Great questions! I’m less strict about time limits now, but when I first started painting I definitely had them because I struggled with getting a solid start in a reasonable amount of time. My first goal was to wrap it up by the end of the day, then when I got good at that I set a goal of 30 min to an hour. Now that I’m good at quickly setting up a strong foundation to a painting, I’m working on spending more time on them, so my goal is more like an hour and a half to two hours. I used to try and make a preplanned color palette and mix colors but it just doesn’t work for me. I don’t know of anyone who does this so I’m tempted to say it just doesn’t work with digital. In a way maybe I start with a basic palette but I paint it directly on and shift it around as needed. I’ll definitely talk more about this but I wanted to give you an answer here because I feel bad taking your questions then putting them behind a paywall. 😅

Do you plan out how long the painting will take before you start? Do you choose a set of essential colors and then mix the colors as you need? Thanks!
