Wow don’t Radu & Emile look so different! Emile used to not have horns and look more like a very tall Chihuahua! 😂 These are some very VERY early designs for the characters and look of BoF.
This was more before me and Deya did some sketch tests together to see what a good final look for the comic would be! You can def see a difference in our two styles with the 2 last images. But when we combine our styles and skills together I think we make ✨magic✨ on the page~
But these early concepts are definitely nostalgic and fun to look back at. ^u^
Also Emile definitely looks better with antlers. 🦌 A proper deer boi.

So, their necks. How difficult was it for you guys to figure out the balance and proportions of their heads to their bodies? I know for example, Steven from Steven Universe, his neck was something their animators had difficulty trying to make look right. And since their body proportions are so good now, do you still find some poses to be more difficult to draw and make look right?

Sooo, I may have missed this somewhere. Are Vlad and Radu named after the Wallachian princes? Like, Vlad the Impaler? I knew Radu was Slavic in origin but I didn’t put it all together until just now. I mean...vampire bats...Vlad does fight in a league where he can draw blood.....Jeez I feel so silly for not catching on sooner, I was so caught up in the feels!

We actually noticed Emile’s shape got confused with other animals so I convinced Deya to ‘ok’ adding them!
