Project Status Update
🕑 Added 2017-12-23 08:43:44 +0000 UTC It's been a little over two months since my last project status post so I figured I'm overdue for an update. The short version is that I'm still working on the next release, but it's still going to be a while longer before it's done. For the details, read on...If you'll recall from my previous post, the main feature I'm working on for v0.6 is posing. I've had basic posing working for a while now, but the movements it produces can still look very robotic. This is a problem because no matter how realistic the rendering is, if the movement seems wrong then the whole illusion falls apart.
My goal is to have the posing system produce "natural" movements so that it feels like you're interacting with a real person (and not a system of rods and hinges with skin over top). The tricky part is pining down the definition of "natural": it's pretty much an I-know-it-when-I-see-it thing. As a result I've been doing a lot of experimentation to figure out what looks good and what doesn't, and that takes more time that a straightforward design-and-implement-once feature. But based on the initial results I'm getting, I think it will be worth it.

Thanks! Yes, once it's done, the new posing system will respond both the position and orientation of the controllers so you'll be able to rotate the forearms by grabbing them and twisting the controller. As for hands, see the post above.

This app is absolutely exceptional, so beautiful. One question I have is will you add a way to more easily rotate the forearm (ie radius with respect to ulna). Currently I can't see how to do this easily. I also wondered if you had considered adding (presumably at a later date) hands for the user in place of the representation of the controllers - in the style of lone echo in which the hands conform to the form of the object being grabbed?
