Maybe they have liberated slaves by the salt tonne ? So probably several thousand slaves - which CAN cause a slight market fluctuations. Doing this within a single year is pretty impressive though and a bit un-realistic. I guess they should have a full militia corps by now assuming most of the slaves stayed behind. Also, the other islands are pretty bare and can stand an influx of people. How did they manage to arrange employment for several thousand folks ?

Their probably not high enough.

He blabbed too much... I know he was compelled but damn... as a merchant shouldn't he have at least a few skills to resist it?

Carl Mason

Might just be affecting his markets, other markets further away not seeing as much activity might be largely unaffected.

Caleb Reusser

“I suppose not. They are far from any of the border clashes and they only visitors would get that far out are those sailing for their specific wares and the odd pilgrim on circumnavigation and only the well off ones at that. --- correction --- the only visitors they would get that far out.

Feibel Sebastian

True.

That still doesn't make sense. I thought it took a long time to get to the islands. Also I doubt he is taking them crammed sardine style like the transatlantic slave trade. I thought he was only taking a few dozen at a time. If a country as a population of a few hundred thousand then his purchases shouldn't affect anything. Unless the countries population is tiny like in the 10,000 or fewer range. I just don't see how 1 boat of slaves that are transported humanely every few months can affect a whole countries price.

Feibel Sebastian

You have to think of it as a short time spike. There is one more buyer who buys them regardless of price so he can get more of the silversea wares (most likely from more than one place). As such others try to rise their profit from their possile sale with him and rise their selling prices. As they all know that there is someone who buys them, the other sellers followed.

Otter Pops

Huh? What's the population of these countries so that the purchases of a few slaves raised the price and a few tons dropped the price of salt? There's no way he has transported thousands of slaves.

Whoops, edited.

Fun! You left in a note about arabic word for seneschal, I don't speak it but some googling suggests Wazir could work, for vizier / government minister.

Luck seems to have taken effect against, making things go in Kai and cos favour. Or at least not turn badly. Its very interesting.
