Good Chappie. Thank you.

Thomas Bell

From the perspective of those two families the world didn't end. They still live in the same place they did, doing the same job that they did before. Since they both got their original lands back shows that the concept of ownership, thus inheritance, has been retained. Only the fact the land is CURRENTLY being worked by the second family makes it slightly a question. The most reasonable solution would be allow them to harvest the crop they have planted and then give it back. A married couple getting the farm is actually a historically acurate result. My own family line gets a little messy because of the way couples wouldn't get married until there was a farm for them to inherent, resulting in a lot of bastards in the area.

Harry Hirsch

So way back the person who impersonated Elaine to sell the land. Did he got like a truckload of experience because he was targeting THE Elaine? And also would the country initiating this not be super confused because there were a person called healer?

Jason Hardman

One of the two dies shortly after marriage? How?

Kai Elanzo

"Nobody knew where the tradition of justices sitting on dictionaries came from. Some theorised that it was because words were the foundation of law, and therefore this symbolised this foundation." -- BRILLIANT!!! 😂😂😂

Kai Elanzo

I see your disagreement and raise one of my own. It is never an answer to force two people into a marriage as a means of solving a problem. Worst case scenario, one of the two dies shortly after the marriage. Does the surviving family then have claim to what is left? As for Aratrum having no claim to the land since society has reset, that goes against everything that the current inhabitants of Orthus are trying to achieve. Many of them returned to their land after being let out of the caves, with no one challenging anyone at the time that the land should somehow be redistributed. Thus it is not beyond the realm of possibility for Aratrum to claim his relative's land as the surviving heir. Lastly, while it could be argued that Barmus has claim to the land having found it "abandoned" and actively working it for the betterment of the community as a whole, he should have exercised some effort into determining if any relatives to the original owners were still living before just "moving in". If this current situation for Orthus could be considered truly a reset from what existed prior the the Immortal War, then Elaine herself could have claimed ownership of the entire area, established herself as the defacto ruler, then setup a system of servitude much like medieval Europe's serf system. But instead she ended up sheltering everyone and then when the situation allowed them to exit the caves, she let them rebuild on HER land without complaint, extending the graciousness she showed when the original inhabitant of Orthus stole the land from her in the first place. All that to say I believe they arrived at the one option that allowed for the least amount of damage for society down the road.

I agree with you, to a point, but the actual issue here isn't what's "right", but what will hurt community cohesion the least. The solution they came up with, while not something I really agree with personally, had the effect of increasing community cohesion. I didn't think either family had a valid claim. Their solution did do more for the community than my solution would have, though. Assuming they actually do have children or grandchildren that aren't opposed to marrying.

Radius Morse

I disagree with your disagreement.

Davis

Deeply disagree with the ruling because I wholeheartedly believe that Aratrum has no claim. The cousin of the owner of the land from before society got reset is not owed one single inch of that land. The people who have worked and used it should get it. Frankly I find the discussions asinine and it lowers my opinion of Skye and Elaine. Iona was 100% correct.

Vytmuir

Thanks for the chapter! I didn't think about that solution, but am very pleased to see it. Giving multiple related choices like that is a great way to settle disputes, it might not be optimal initially, but will get there eventually and with significantly less grumbling.

Lorcogoth

I love the jab Aratrum threw at Barmus at the end there, being only willing to accept the wine if it was his cousins suggests that he thinks Barmus his normal taste in wine is either bad or he can't normally afford good wine, or even better if the wine is gone before Iona comes to check there will be less to pay out.

Jason Hardman

TYFTC! "I was sitting on a pair of thick dictionaries so everyone wouldn’t tower over me. Proper presence and all that." Centuries later, "Nobody knew where the tradition of justices sitting on dictionaries came from. Some theorised that it was because words were the foundation of law, and therefore this symbolised this foundation." 😂

Fantastic chapter

Lithium

It was a way to say "stop squabbling, if we go by claims Elaine has the oldest and stronger claim to that land. So instead of fighting let's get it producing"

kyle

That was really well thought out. This truly is the wisdom of immortals.

Trevor Mergen

Thanks!

FeyOne

That was an excellent chapter, and a fantastic solution!

Andrew

Thank you!

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

BudgetDragon

When they brought up the land being falsely taken from Elaine I thought they were about to have Elaine and Iona take the land

Roombot

I’m glad they headed off that potential feud

ZephanyZephZeph

Fantastic stewardship and combination of input from Elaine. Creating that plan so no unconsenting marriage is made at the hands of Law, as she was subjected to.
