Harry Hirsch

So sweet Just shy of shouting mom

Trevor Mergen

Thanks!

DireGoat

the freezing in place is only for people who have eaten them not apples themselves. its also mentioned she is mostly able to uses her insane senses to avoid those situations most of the time.

MoonlitShade

I might be misremembering her curse but I thought she literally could not approach apples or people who have eaten apples. Like if someone ate apples and walked towards her, she couldn’t step towards them and would basically be frozen in place unless she stepped away from them? But maybe I’m misremembering. Weird.

Kurosov

There is supporting evidence to say that such a treaty never existed during the republic era. Such a treaty would have required every nation at the time to be a signatory. Remus was the first nation of Humans/Vampires and they had no knowledge of such a treaty. Night as someone who existed since creation never even mentioned the issue when one of his sentinels turned up with an actual Phoenix. It's unlikely Remus during it's republic era ever signed a treaty with any other peoples as they seemed mostly ignorant of the outside world as a whole. Elaine's return with information on the outside world and their agreement with the Elves against the Shimagu was around the time Remus became an Empire.

Aoinfinity

Yeah, it sounds almost like they'd given up on actually keeping people from noticing and were focusing on preventing embarrassment to the elves... which, given how it seems like they started as an exclusively elven organization, unfortunately tracks. Doesn't quite square with the professional way the Wardens act now, but a lot can change over thousands of years. Just look at the Sentinels.

tr13ze

Thanks for the chapter 😁

Lijwent

Apple don't do much as long as she doesn't eat them or try to heal people whose ate them

Skitterdidnothingwrong

I just find the entire situation weird the more I think about it. Where did everyone sleep? What did they eat? Bathe? How were all these important people able to leave at the drop of the hat when Night showed up? How did they not kill each other after spending days to weeks on this platform? Was there any inflight entertainment? Like I’m imagining the hell that an 8 hour flight is then extending it to multiple days?? Like you don’t need to tell Elaine or the other immortals earlier. Just let them know where and when it is instead of picking them for a trip that is much longer then necessary for them.

DireGoat

Keep in mind that Night was going a lot slower with that platform than Elaine's top speed. So going back and forth between the summit likely wasn't and option. Also the type of connections you make on the road are going to be different than meeting people at the summit for the first time. Some people like Sky and Katarina saw a political battle field from the second they stepped on but a lot like Elaine are going to be a lot more casual and less on guard in the less formal environment. Also it was expressly stated that they didn't want to heavily advantage one group over another by letting them get there early.

loimprevisto

I'm surprised there weren't any apples to worry about in this festival full of foods from around the world. > Was this what I’d been putting people through for years!? Now I'm waiting for a *royal* pastos incident!

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

Roombot

Someone in Orthus might die while she’s not there too. Someone could die anywhere she’s not present

Roombot

SHE ALMOST CALLED ELAINE MOM 😭😭😭😭

Simon Kellis

Waiting for Sara to not correct herself when she calls Elaine “Mom”. I have a whole bag of onions ready.

Skitterdidnothingwrong

I think the platform would have made more sense if Night picked people up during a single night then dropped them off before dawn. That way people wouldn’t be dragged along for days or weeks.

Benjamin Smith

People are always dying all over the place. Elaine can't be everywhere.

Skitterdidnothingwrong

Mingling and making connections is definitely incredibly important. It’s just strange to me that that was happening in a random field while Night avoids the sun instead of a fancy gala at the summit itself. Like providing travel for mortals makes sense but just give the immortals that can travel around the world in half a day a time, location, and invitation. This isn’t really a big deal it’s just a bit strange how the travelling to this thing happened

DireGoat

Socializing on that platform was extremely important. Its very important to show up with as many connections as possible at an event like this. Night also could not show favoritism when picking up the delegates.

DireGoat

He also seems to have an affinity for art so he might have an appraise or authenticate style skill just because of personal interest.

DireGoat

I still think its very funny how hard they tried to keep that secret. Every one who heard or could of heard the secret will be hunted down and killed in a public and horrific manner by the strongest warriors in the world. Mean while anyone who spent more than 10 minutes with a group of elves "ooohhhh they're all like this. That's it right? Well probably shouldn't say anything, seems rude."

Andrew

Thank you!

Skitterdidnothingwrong

That was a really cute chapter! I’m a bit confused why Elaine spent 5 days on the platform when she’s only a modest commute from home? Night knows how mobile she is so why didn’t he just tell her the location? Sure she socialized on the platform but she can (and should) do that at the summit itself.

AntiClimax she her

@Kurosov I was thinking the same thing, except that Iona was with her, so that argument wouldn't fly. It'd still be funny, though.

Kurosov

I could see wardens requiring a specialised identify skill for their job. One that can give information on the provenance of objects for example as a part of their work is policing immortals actions in the mortal lands.

AntiClimax she her

The first we hear of the Wardens is book 6. They are at least contemporaries of the Remus Republic, and probably predate it. "Any elf let slip what our curse is? The Wardens move in, kill everyone who spilled the secret, the people it was told to, and anyone who could’ve remotely heard it." Awarthril added in. "They do so in a very public manner. Don’t ask. Don’t even think about asking. And don’t say you ever did ask." I don't think an immortal war has happened by this time, but it's possible the treaty about the northern continent was already in place. This is after the initial conflict with dragons, that Night described to Elaine.

Kurosov

It’d be funny if they do ever catch her up on that and she gets some fancy pants [Lawyer] to argue while she is technically an Elvenoid as a Chimera she’s more than enough mythical creature that the prohibition does not apply.

Uri Rayman

The wardens were mentioned back in book 5 or 6 when Elaine was travelling with the three elves so idk which organisation is older but there definitely close

Stephanie Washburn

I do like how this is going.

Bougainville

The warden were created to enforce the deal that north continent is reserved to non humanoid race I don't remenber when that treaty was made but I think it was after one of the imortal war either way the republic of remus is a lot older than the warden

Nait02

Those darn onion-cutting ninjas

SwitchBlaze

Though I am somewhat paranoid about someone dying in Kazehara because Elaine wasn't there during the night.

SwitchBlaze

Cute Chappie. Thank You.

TheBotler

This was a sweet chapter, thank you for the hard work as always.

PaintedMirror36

I think Wally recognized it as Sentinel Dawn’s personal symbol from the former Exterri instead of it as the ancient Sentinel badge from Remus that it really is. But maybe he has a skill that determines the age of an object or something?

Daniel B

Well Night is probably the most infamous sentinel of remus, i can’t imagine that anyone else that still caries that symbol is anything other than a complete bad ass. Also, because elaine skipped through time, it is possible that the wardens do not have her properly documented yet, and wally is wondering if he is within arms reach of a polymorphed dragon or some crap

Kennyevilmonkey

I wouldn't be surprised if the Wardens have some kind of [Loremaster] training or a big fancy library at their HQ that Elaine would be willing to kill to visit.

Jason Hardman

TYFTC! A thought that occurred to me during the chapter, did the Wardens exist during the time of Remus? Do they predate the Sentinels or do the Sentinels predate them? I was mainly thinking of what if Elaine was invited to become a Warden, and got offered a Warden specific skill. Would Sentinel's Superiority still be greater? Could the Wardens even be an off shoot of the Sentinels even? Just some fun ideas to explore in my head canon.

Tiffany Miller

My heart

Dalth

I do wonder who taught him to recognize a Sentinel badge that old though!

ElPontife

Nice chapter !

Markus

Thank you for the chapter.

Kennyevilmonkey

Lol, Wally realizing just how old Elaine might just actually be. And that ending, so cute!

CringeWorthyStudios

Elaine got promoted to mum? Neat. Thanks for the chapter!

Mad Dessert

Thanks!

Tilen Praprotnik
