This is the video that convinced me to become a patreon! I love it! My only concern, and I do not think this is intentional at all, is the following line: "...nor do I want to discount people who might be aromantic or ace..." followed by, "but for those that do see a queer relationship" accidentally implies that aro and ace people aren't queer.

You may be quite right, my dear Maggie Mae, that Tolkien may have had some gay thoughts with his elf and dwarfs and trolls and hobbits. Peter Jackson's movie certainly gives that impressions. But is there more? In one of the novels by Honore de Balzac the protagonist receives a message asking if he would bury a dead man with no questions asked. Since the person who asks is his friend he does as asked. Would you bury a dead body without questions just because your friend asked you? If you answer no, then I think you don't know what true friendship is. True friendship might be disguised gay love, and then again, it might be not. There are two great movies about the subject, perhaps you could research them? It didn't get a good reception but I still think it's true. Where is the border between friendship and love? Does there need to be one? At what point does sex appear in the picture and does it have to appear at all? I am 57 years old man I don't remember what love or sex mean any longer. But I do remember friendship.

One of my things with Tolkien is some of his late writings before he died had some critical retrospectives, with the middle of writing Lord of the Rings as seemingly a bit of a turning point. Obviously hes not ... great with writing about gender, but I always wish he did more with gender as Eowyn was a super fascinating character to me growing up. Yet she is there in a proportionally small part of massive books.

This was wonderful! I loved it! I’d love to see a queer reading of Neil Jordan’s Michael Collins; the love triangle with Collins, Harry Boland and Julia Roberts has a lot going on, particularly given Jordan’s two previous movies were Interview with the Vampire and The Crying Game.
