And today I learned what AVGN is, heh. Doesn't sound like my cup of tea. HK97 sounds like it might be interesting? But not enough for me to go hunting up more info about it. (Like, I have family in HK, so I'm usually down for learning about it, but it doesn't sound like it's really *about* HK.)

Thanks for the video! I had no idea what Hong Kong 97 actually was. I'm familiar with some protest games or serious game like they're sometimes called like 'Leichenberg' and '1387 km', but it never occured to me that Hong Kong 97 was one of them. So thank you for the lesson. As far as worst AVGN gets... I'd say the movie still sits at the top. I was really rooting for James when e made that film, but the product was so off, I don't even know how we got here.

Ummm....wow. I'd have to catch up on over a decade of videos just to form a halfway-qualified guess. I won't. He was a gateway video creator, but that was a long, long time ago. I do remember enjoying his Silver Surfer video back in the day.

I've watched AVGN diligently starting from the Batman episodes (back when they weren't available on YouTube and you had to watch on his website) until episode 200 - to me, Life of Black Tiger and Seaman are the worst by far, I was never able to finish watching them. I agree with your points regarding HK97, but his video about it is lighthearted and has some good jokes, so I wouldn't call it the worst.

The reason I liked the HK97 video before was because of what I thought was James’ authentic reaction to the subject. Knowing what the “game” is now it does explain why I haven’t watched that video in years. My personal favorite AVGN will always be the Action 52 and Cheetahman ones.

I think I occasionally watched AVGN many years ago, maybe, but I picked up the two last videos you mentioned - Hong Kong 97 and Life of Black Tiger - and watched them. Okay, that's a lie, I watched Hong Kong 97 and I made it far enough into the other one for Gottfried to appear and start talking and a certain word to appear in the subtitles, and my hand pressed the pause button before my brain could even process it. Anyway, after that experience, I guess I'm wondering... what exactly is the bit? Like... he's not even angry. He makes negative comments and cusses, but he's clearly not acting frustrated, or upset. I feel like I'm missing what the appeal is supposed to be.

I stopped watching shortly after he did Crazybus or Big Rigs or HK97 I forget if they were all the same year or not. The HK97 video is the only one here that I've even heard of. And I stopped watching because it got boring. So finding out that nope wow it went *places* is just bewildering

Can’t say I have a specific pick for worst, but I’m generally not a fan of the newer episodes. Well, I say newer, but it’s been years since I watched an episode I haven’t seen before. Has _anyone_ ever finished the LoBT one? Bonus Opinion: Funnily enough, your pick is actually one of my all-time favorite episodes, since it’s always read to me as more of a showcase formatted as an AVGN episode. Plus it’s an unintentional riff on the type of games that HK97 is criticizing, and as they’re very much not my cup of tea it’s weirdly cathartic for that. The game itself does a lot of heavy lifting in that episode, though, which is probably why it feels so much like a showcase to me.
