Patreon and Paypal Payment Issue Update

We're in contact with Patreon now on the Paypal payment issues and their tech team is investigating, with hopes that it's resolved before the weekend.

Of course, we'll make sure to update you again when things are resolved, and hopefully many of you that have failed payments do return.
We've made public on Twitter that we're unhappy with the level of communication provided by Patreon on this matter, as we were not notified by them at all that there was an issue, and due to the size of our platform, and reliance on it for our livelihoods, we should have been made aware as soon as they knew there was an issue so that we could in turn inform you.

Good work, Nick. This month it was only Second Wind where I had the "mysterious payment problem" with Patreon. This is not a new and unknown phenomenon. It's been a few months since it bit me the last time, but in that time, several of the creators I follow experienced these problems with some of their subscribers. The more creators who tell Patreon this sucks, the better!

Poor communication with Patreon is not a surprise to me. They have never responded to any help request/question I’ve ever sent them.

You are not the only creators affected. I've had to cancel and resubscribe to multiple content creators over the course of the last 10 months or so because monthly memberships payments kept failing. Eventually got sick of it and had to cancel permanently, only being able retain free memberships. Same for Second Wind since last month or the month before. Even added my frustration with this as my cancellation message. Not once has Patreon contacted me to find out what is going on or find a solution.

While you're talking to Patreon about this, ask them about why we can't gift memberships! I would totally be gifting memberships to people for birthdays etc. if that was an option. It's weird that Patreon doesn't have that functionality. As someone who doesn't really use social media, gifting memberships is the main way I would have of spreading the word and it's a shame it's impossible

Hopefully means its getting resolved. I'm just hoping we're able to get the 1000 people back that have been unsubscribed because of this. Not sure how it works when Patreon just cancelled the payments and didn't notify them from what it sounds like.

Just tried again after "confirming my card" in my paypal account, and my payment was successful...
