Early access is tricky, for both publishers and players. Players make a gamble trying to bet on game achieving usually considerable goals. Publishers try - usually unsuccessfully - make a educated guess about costs of projects. That is why game like Kingdom Come Deliverance or Elite Dangerous coming out and sticking around is almost brave. Because usually people support games with considerable immersive sim elements, which is hardest thing to pull off well, and being able to sell it later to "normies".
