Been saying it for years, the chances of a new breakout IP joining the legendary big boys of gaming (Zelda, Mario, Halo, GTA etc) gets slimmer and slimmer every year. Successful games just aren’t enough, they literally have to break into the halls of culture before they have a chance of enduring beyond 2-3 games. Same goes for studios, gaming is just too volatile, it’s all a big gamble and winner takes all.

With the cadence of George Carlin you have laid out the business model of end stage capitalism that is easy to understand. Bravo. And when you spoke of the passion of game developers it sounded a lot like those of us that work in emergency services. “We don’t have to pay them because they love it and will show up no matter what.” Until we don’t. And it’s a major problem for many areas. And that situation is coming for many more industries. Just remember, these industries can’t exist without us at the end of the the workers and the consumers.

Very true, this applies to all capitalist ventures. No matter the situation, “fanboys” will defend the corporation. I understand the sentiment, and it may be overly cynical to not care about a company, but companies do not need your defence. You can still enjoy the products a company makes without losing critical thinking
