The Mario Maker 3D makes more sense when you consider that Switch users have been primed for "3D building mechanics" by recent Zelda games too. A lot of the tools are already there to expand on

Ages back I'd had my own guesses for an open-world Mario's gimmick. The probably easy but perfectly viable thing might simply be to add in his Mario Kart and go full GTA drivable sandbox, a way to move faster to navigate a larger world, as with how Breath of the Wild introduced all kinds of movement mechanics. Maybe even bring back the plane and submarine from Super Mario Land.
Swift Justice
Super Mario Odyssey was a pretty good title since it does indeed live up to the premise of a castaway Mario going on a grand voyage across many varied environments with colourful inhabitants. Of course, I feel a lot of the time they just pick something that sounds nice. Final Fight is fun to say.
Kraken
The problem with naming your sequels things like "Infinite" (Bioshock) or "Final" (Final Fight) is that when the inevitable sequel comes around, people go, "Wow, you really don't know what those words *mean*, do you?"

I believe in the mouse functionality, given the optical sensor tucked inside each Joycon and also given it seems convenient that the mouse is right there ready to be used if snapped off in the tablet mode for the system. Granted, I dunno how comfortable it would be to use a Joycon like a mouse. It doesn't sound very comfortable to me, but I'm basing that on the current Sw1tch Joycons. For games that would benefit, I think the mentioned Mario Maker, as well as others with level / map editors, Sims-like games, strategy games, and maybe even shooters. Maybe for shooters because I find motion control aiming is already pretty good with the detached Joycons for the current Sw1tch games.
