Oof. The truth hurts. That said I stopped watching a few years ago because I realised it wasn’t going to change but it’s odd hearing it so bluntly.

Sucks that this is true. Personally I prefer the Golden Joysticks and the BAFTAs precisely because of how they recognise the people behind the games and at least last year (in part due to the BG3 hype) I made the effort to find time to watch them. But I get for the average gamer it's going to be hard to convince them to watch 3 hours or so of game studios talking about themselves and their games rather than a series of flashy trailers

To their credit, they did find a much better balance this year between the ads, and the speeches + recognition of industry layoffs. If they can keep improving on that each year, I'd say that's enough for me. Maybe my standards are low but this year did show good awareness and a bit of action on that front. All that said, I do think they should consider limiting the runtime of the game ads. I'm all for having them, I get they are what pay for the show, and they are definitely what draws people in... but there is also no reason for why single ads need upwards of 5+ minutes straight in runtime. Again, I'm not saying don't have ads, just enforce them to be shorter instead. Not even the Superbowl ads run for that long.
