I joined EA a few years ago and I actually rather like it here. I sometimes have to pester some of my team members because they've accrued too much PTO and could they please take some downtime before they burn out. No one here expects artists or engineers to "Bleed CompanyName Blue". And the culture is quite ethical and supportive, even rigidly so. So, as far as I can tell, EA *has* learned from past mistakes. Even the "MICROTRANSACTIONS BAAAAD!" one.

I'm still weirded out by how many people CONTINUE to be surprised by this kind of thing in 2025. Or defend the Megacorps as "just doing what they're legally allowed to" but then shouting down any attempts or even suggestions of any regulations that would stop, or even curtail, them. It's the perfect little ouroborus of bullshit, except the snake is running out of its own tail after 40 unchecked years.

I am the spouse of a physician and I want to point out that physicians are being treated by hospitals exactly the way game coders were created back in 2004. They are basically free employees running the hospital during residency, expected to take care of patients lives while on little to no sleep and be responsible for the most mundane administrative insurance paperwork while also ensuring every lab value is addressed and documented. It's a terrible industry and part of the reason for the high cost of healthcare as well as the enormously high error rate in hospitals.
